League at home to Carrigaline United on Sunday 30th October
Midleton 1 Carrigaline United 3
Carrigaline can to Knockgriffen today top of the table. First half saw some good football from both teams, Josh made two very good saves. The game changed when a weak shot on goal went under our keeper's foot. Carigaline's second goal came from an own goal by Issi as the ball came off his shin, Carrigaline will never get two easier goals. Midleton preesed again in the second half but again Midleton were punished from a corner as the ball was not cleared and an easy tap in for the visters third. We got one back ten minutes from the end as Issi beat three players to put the ball in the bottom corner. All said we did play well, look forward to the next match.
League at home to Rockmount on Sunday 2nd October
Midleton 2 Rockmount 2
Midleton made a great start to this home game against a very strong Rockmount. Klye McCarthy played a brillant cross and Mark Hourigan smashed it into the back of the Rockmount goal.
Rockmount then started to pressure us. If not for our keeper Josh who made some brillant saves.
We went in at half time in control and one up.
Second half saw Rockmount again pressure our defence and got their reward with the equaliser.
Rockmount took the lead with about ten minutes to go from a loose ball in the box. Now Midleton took control of the game and from a kick out from Josh, Kalum took the ball down and rounded there keeper to slot the ball home.
Midleton had all the ball in the last ten and were unlucky not to get the winner.
Good game lads great work from all the players today.
National Cup away to Ballincollig on 25th September
Ballincollig A 1 Midleton 2
We played today away to Ballincollig on a very wet Sunday morning. Midleton went into this first round National Cup game division 1 against division 3.
Ballincollig put us under real pressure from the start in fact it was all Ballincollig in the first fifteen minutes with Midleton trying to get out of there own half.
The break through came in the first half when we were awarded a free kick twenty yards out and Kalum Deady stepped up to score a brillant free kick. I have never giving man of the match as i think its not fair but this week i will if it wasn't for our goal keeper Josh Deady, we would have been out of he match.
Second half saw Midleton play ball and miss three clear sitters. Ballincollig got a goal in the last two minutes of normal time and deserved. Extra time again saw Josh use every part of his body to keep the ball out. To be fair it could have either way. Midleton got a corner Kalum delivered and Kevin Rohan in the right place blasted it into the back of the net.
Well done Ballincollig for a great game. Well done lads and the man of the match Josh.
League at home to Everton on Sunday 18th September
Midleton 2 Everton 2
A game of two halves would discribe this game. Everton put us under pressure from the start but we defended well. Everton's break came when from a corner, the ball was cleared from the box and their no 8 struck first time to score a wonder goal. Again Everton pushed and got their reward when the ball wasn't cleared and they got their second just on half time.
Second half Midleton put Everton under pressure and we got our reward when the ball broke in the box and Mark Hourigan strick first time to make it 2-1. Again Midleton pushed and looked a better team. Kalum took a free kick and the their keeper made the save, but spilled the ball and again our captain Mark Hourigan struck the ball from an impossible angle to make it 2-2 all. We should have gone on to win this one but we will take the draw. There was some great saves from Josh Deady. With our back line doing there job Cian, Conor, James and Cillian make some great tackles. Issi Brownie and Kalum worked very hard to create play from midfield. Up front started with Kevin and Andrew and they were unlucky not to get on the score sheet. With Dylan coming on second half for Andy. A good result well done lads.
League home to Strand Utd on Sunday 11th September
Midleton 5 Strand Utd 3
Our first win of the season at home to a good strand team. our new signing Dylan Shaw scored his first goal for the club when the ball broke from a corner. Second goal also came from a corner when James Carroll scored his first goal. Strand then got an easy goal when we made a mistake at the back. Kalum scored our third with a brillant shot from out side the box. Strand again pushed and again got an easy goal from a bad clearance. Our fourth came from Kevin Rohan as he got the ball from some brillant passing from Killian Browne. Strand again pushed and pushed and got there third. Isreal Matiki got a brillant goal from a great run from midfield.
Well done lads some great defending from Cian Greene who cleared the ball off the line and James Carroll at left back. Mark and Kalum put in some great work in midfield.
League home to Bandon on Sunday 4th September
Midleton 2 Bandon 4
Our first home game of the season was against Bandon. Midleton took the lead in the first half with a brillant run from Kalum Deady. Bandon came back and scored to make it one all.
Killian Browne took a brillant free kick to just hit the cross bar. Bandon then took the lead to make it 2-1 to the vistors.
The second half Midleton were unluckly not to be two all and on the break from a long ball Bandon went three up. Kalum was unlucky as his shot was cleared off the line. Bandon then got there fourth. Kalum got the ball deep in the Bandon half to make it 4-2.
With six first team players still missing with injurys and holidays it should get better when we have a full squad.
League away to Carrigaline United on Sunday 28th August
Carrigaline 2 Midleton 0
First game of the season didn't start the way we wanted it too. We lost to a good Carrigaline side.
If we could have fielded a full squad maybe the result would have been different with players still on holidays.
Carrigaline scored their two goals in the first half, we had some shots on target but their keeper had a good game and saved everything we threw at them.
Second half was a game more even with both side pressing, we lacked the killer touch up front it was not our day. Josh made some great saves to keep the score at 2 nil.
Klye came close to scoring, Mark and Kalum were unlucky. The keeper proved too strong for us today.
Well done Carrigaline, look forward to the home match.

Local Cup at home to Kanturk on Sunday 22nd January.
Midleton 8 Kanturk 1
Midleton welcomed Kanturk to Knockgriffin for this first round cup tie, they are a division below us but we were not going to take anything for granted.
Nine minutes in Cian seeing Jamiu looking to make a run, chipped over a lovely ball in behind the back line, and with great control Jamiu finished off the move nicely with a cracking shot. Ten minutes later Cian's cross from left of goal just inside the box was met with a perfect touch from Killian, and we were two nil up. Kanturk nearly pulled one back in the thirtieth minute with a powerful strike from twenty yards out, with the ball heading for the top corner Brian pulled off a superb save to tip it over the crossbar. Up the other end Aidan, Cian and Steve had chances to score, then after a nice build up starting with Kevin at the back, Jamiu returned the earlier favour and threaded one through to Cian, who finished well to make it three nil a few minutes before half time.
The Second half, and with less than five minutes gone, Maciek who'd replaced Aidan on the left wing at the restart, let rip from fifteen yards out to give him his first competitive goal of the season. In the fifty second minute, Kacper who was in a new position again this week and playing well in the middle of the park, put Cian through to score his second. Maciek struck another rocket of a shot, what a goal it would've been, but rattling the crossbar he was denied his second. A great cross in to the far post from Steve and Cian nearly headed in for his hat-trick, but that was to come two minutes later when hetapped in from close range after a little pushing and shoving? ah Cian. About twelve yards into Kanturk's half Killian passes quickly to Steve who's first touch is a cheeky little back flick to Cian, who runs into the box, out pacing a defender he slots it past the keeper for his fourth. Steve got a reward for all his hard work in the sixty eighth minute, when from a tight angle his cross come shot found the back of the net. The visitors got a consolation when a bit of scramble occurred in our six yard box, a poor clearance and the ball hit off the legs of a Kanturk player who was running in towards goal, jersey over his head in celebration, gave us all a laugh. Our back four, Lochlann, Kevin, Shane, and Eoghan had a fantastic game, closing down quickly any chance Kanturk had of getting into the match. The Magpies never took their foot off the pedal throughout this game and their quickness and determination was all too much for Kanturk to cope with. Well done lads, we look forward to the next round.

League away to Riverstown on Sunday 8th January
Riverstown 2 Midleton A 5
The start of the second half of the season saw Midleton travel to Glanmire for their second encounter with Riverstown. The pitch at Eastcliffe was not in the best condition, it suffers from being easily waterlogged, and being so sheltered doesn't help matters either.
Midleton went into this game in the right frame of mind, having carried on training during the Christmas break,
and playing a friendly recently was only going to benefit them against a team who can play some nice football.
Riverstown were the first to score early on, a fine pass to one of their quick forwards and with lightening speed he was gone in behind our defenders, with just the keeper to beat the ball was in the back of the net. This set the pace for the game, and meant our back four were going to have a busy time of it. Catching out the Riverstown keeper some twenty five yards out, Cian's low driven strike made it one-all shortly afterwards. Kacper who was out of his usual center half position for a place up front, used his strength and determination to score Midleton's second, and his first goal of the season in the twenty eighth minute. Jamiu followed that ten minutes later when his pace got him through on goal, then with a cool finish he also bagged his first of the season. The back four had tightened things up and were in control for the last thirty minutes of the first half.
A couple of minutes into the second half came our fourth, Steve let rip from a tight angle just on the edge of the penalty area, with such a powerful shot, it would've taken a brave lad to get in the way of it. Brian didn't have much to do for long periods, but never the less when he was called upon with a high goal bound shot he reacted quickly to tip it over the bar. The Magpies were enjoying the game, playing some fantastic football, and piling on constant pressure, then against the run of play Riverstown won a corner, and with the ball going to ground and being hard to clear with so many bodies in way, a control of the hand and it was in the back of the net. With plenty of time remaining this lifted the Glanmire lads and meant Midleton were on the defensive for a while until in the sixty seventh minute, Killian who'd been working hard on the right wing all match, picked his spot with a stunning shot a few yards out from the corner of the penalty box. After that, attacking wise,
Riverstown seemed to throw in the towel. For the last ten minutes on such heavy ground, and with tired legs, both teams found it hard to string much together. At last the final whistle came, worn out but smiling faces in black and white. As always, a tremendous effort, and a well deserved three points.
Team: B Ahearne, L McCarthy, K O'Riordan (c), S Dorney, E MacSweeney, A Davidson, S McCarthy, C Haines,
K Deady, K Slawinski, J Aminu, M Beczek, M Walsh, F Keeling, I Pospiech, E O'Connor.
Friendly away to Watergrsshill United on Thursday 29th December
Watergrasshill 1 Midleton A 4
Midleton travelled to Watergrasshill for a friendly on a blustery cold day during the holidays, but at least the rain held off, and managing to play a match before the second half of the season kicks in was a bonus.
Both teams put in a great effort considering the conditions, although the pitch was playable, it was fairly slippery. Midleton were the more physical at times, which seemed to give them the advantage, and what with training on the previous day probably made them that little bit sharper.
In saying that the Hill started brightly, a cracking strike then a fantastic save by Brian Ahearne saw the ball drop just outside the six yard box, the opposition being the quicker to react, and we were one nil down with just five minutes gone. Midleton also reacted quickly by equalising a few minutes later, Ethan O'Connor with a cool finish slotting it nicely pass the keeper. The Magpies then dug in, and with determination and some nice flowing football took the game to Watergrasshill. With goals from Maciek, Cian and some fella who jumped on the bus as we were leaving Knockgriffin, (think I heard someone call him Badge) Midleton in the end ran out comfortable winners.
An excellent performance and turnout for a friendly in wild conditions, also fair play to Watergrasshill for hosting the match.
Team: B Ahearne, L McCarthy, K O'Riordan, E MacSweeney, F Keeling, A Davidson, S McCarthy,
C Haines, K Deady, E O'Connor, J Aminu, M Beczek, I Pospiech, D Williams.
League at home to Ringmahon Rangers on Sunday 11th December
Midleton A 1 Ringmahon Rangers 3
Another frustrating match where Midleton dominated for most of it, but didn't take their chances. Ringmahon defended well, as did the Magpies, but switching off at key moments was the difference. With Darren Hodnett out injured and our keeper Brian Ahearne missing, the midfield was somewhat weakened with Cian Haines taking up the position between the posts.
As usual a great effort put in by the lads, and hopefully the second half of the season will bring an upturn in fortunes.
Team: C Haines, L McCarthy, S Dorney, K Slawinski, E MacSweeney, S McCarthy, F Keeling, K O'Riordan, J Dunne, M Beczek, K Deady, J Aminu, A Davidson, D Sallami, E O'Connor, I Pospiech.
League at home to Passage United on Sunday 27th November
Midleton 1 Passage United 2
A game where Midleton gave everthing but gained nothing, due to a terrible decision by the referee. What's new there! I hear you say. The first half was a scrappy affair with both sides looking half asleep
for most of it, nil all at the break.
Second half saw an improvement from both teams, the match started to come to life, then a lapse in concentration and Midleton gifted Passage their first goal, with poor defending from a corner, but after that we started to pile on the pressure. Stephen McCarthy heading from close range found the back of the net in the sixty second minute. Chance after chance went by the wayside. On another day Cian Haines might of been celerbrating a hat trick, but it wasn't happening in this match. With the ball striking the crossbar, the post and at least a dozen more shots on target but no sign of a goal, frustration was starting to set in. Then with about two minutes left, a Passage forward who was at least four yards offside, latched onto along ball (one of about twenty Passage had been putting in all through the match) and scored the winner.
Not the first time a ref has affected the outcome of a game, and it won't be the last!
A great effort from the team, just unlucky on this occasion.
Team: B Ahearne, L McCarthy, K O'Riordan (c), K Slawinski, E MacSweeney, A Davidson, C Haines,
S McCarthy, M Walsh, K Deady, J Dunne, J Aminu, M Beczek, F Keeling, I Pospiech, D Behan.
More importantly we all wish a speedy recovery to Darren Hodnett, who received a broken leg after a poor tackle made on him a fortnight ago at St Marys.
League away to Corinthians on 29th October
Corinthians A 0 Midleton A 6
Scorers - Darragh Behan 3, Killian Deady 2, Darren Hodnett.
In dire conditions Midleton put an end to their goal drought by knocking six past Corinthians.
Darragh (Beanz) started the proceedings five minutes in with a lovely shot from around twelve yards out. His second came ten minutes later from nearly the same spot only this time he took it on his weaker
right foot, placing it nicely beyond the keeper. In the twenty second minute Killian latched on to a great ball from Kacper, then with pace and control got himself
in behind the Corinthian defenders, with a perfectly angled shot we were three goals up.
With the end of the first half insight, Darren was brought down in the box, Penalty! Darragh stepped up looking
for his hat trick which he deservedly got with a confident well taken strike, leaving the keeper no chance.
Midleton were delighted to walk off at half time four nil up.
The second half, and with nothing to lose Corinthians looked eager to create something, but the Magpies were still brimming with confidence and with just eight minutes gone Darrens brilliant lob on the keeper
made it five nil. Kacper who was having a great game, as were all the backs, had to come off early on in the second after
a strong challenge resulted in him picking up a knee injury. Eoghan came on taking up the right back
position which meant Shane moving into the now vacant central slot, and the back four remained solid.
The game started to change some what as substitutions were being made at regular intervals, the players getting
tired and the rain coming down in buckets. But there was still something left in the bag. On the seventy fifth minute
Darrens pass across the face of goal resulted in Killian tapping in for his second.
An absolutely outstanding team performance and a well deserved win.
Team : B Ahearne, L McCarthy, K O'Riordan (c), K Slawinski, S Dorney, D Behan, M Beczek, M Walsh,

League at home to Mallow on Saturday 1st October.
Midleton A 0 Mallow 1
There wasn't much separating the two teams throughout this match, apart from Midleton enjoying
slightly longer periods of possession and Mallow being gifted a goal.
Midleton looked lively from the off, taking the game to Mallow with some good attacking football, but not
being able to make the most of all their hard work meant a frustrating first half for the Magpies, Jamie Dunne
came closest, when Darren Hodnett, seeing Jamies run, delivered the perfected ball, and with
only the keeper to beat, we were all surprised to see the his effort sail over the bar. Some good solid
defending and the safe hands from our keeper Brian Ahearne saw the teams go out nil all at the break.
Five minutes into the second half and coming from sloppy play Midleton conceded a corner, which was
directed straight onto the head of an unmarked opponent just outside the six yard box, with the ball deflecting
off a defenders leg Brian had no chance to react, and could only watch as the ball travelled into his goal.
Try as they may Midleton just couldn't seem to find the net.
With very little time left Darragh Behan came agonisingly close with a cracking strike from twenty five yards out. A goal drought in our last two matches will hopefully come to an end shortly.
Team: B Ahearne, D Behan, K O'Riordan (c), K Slawinski, E MacSweeney, A Davidson, S Dorney, C Haines,
K Deady, D Hodnett, J Dunne, S McCarthy, M Beczek, J Aminu, F Keeling, I Pospiech.
League away to Fermoy on Sunday 18th September
Fermoy 2 Midleton 0
An early kick-off in Fermoy, the first half was a scrappy affair with both teams struggling to get any kind of hold on the game, nil all at the break.
Midleton looked more organised in the second half, and the introduction of Killian Deady on the right wing
gave the team more options in attack. With the magpies starting to pass the ball around alot better and putting more pressure on the Fermoy backs, it looked like only a matter of time until they would score, but against the run of play
it was the opposition who got the goal, this turned things around for Fermoy who became more confident on the ball.
Midleton had their chances though, normally Darren Hodnett would have scored from the superb cross that Killian put into the box, but he misdirected his header straight at the keeper. Bill O'Neill was unlucky to have scuffed his shot just wide of the post
and Killian's lob on the keeper just missed the target. With about fifteen minutes to go Fermoy got their second. Midleton kept trying to get something out of the game but
it wasn't to be their day.
Team: Brian Ahearne, Martin Walsh, Farrell Keeling, Kacper Slawinski (c), Eoghan McSweeney,
Lochlann McCarthy, Cian Haines, Maciek Beczek, Stephen McCarthy, Darren Hodnett, Jamiu Aminu,
Killian Deady, Jamie Dunne, Shane Dorney Darragh Behan, Bill O'Nell.
League at home on Saturday 3rd September.
Midleton 4 Riverstown 0 Midleton took control of the game from the start and had Riverstown on the back foot for long periods of play. First half injuries to Lochlann McCarthy
and Aidan Davidson meant a strong bench being used earlier than expected. Shane Dorney replacing Lochlann twenty minutes in, then ten minutes later Farrell Keeling replaced Aidan. First half goals from Stephen McCarthy and Cian Haines saw Midleton two nil up at the break.
With the second half came much of the same style of football from the Magpies only better, Shane Dorney came close to scoring on a couple of occasions and captain Kevin O'Riordan saw his effort going just wide of the post. The introduction of Maciek Beczek strengthened the squad and the fresh legs of Bill O'Neill left Riverstown with very little hope of scoring. After some great attacking play Darren Hodnett tucked away the third and Stephen McCarthy's pace and determination resulted in him netting his second towards the end of the game. A fantastic performance from all the team and a well deserved win.
Team: Brian Ahearne, Aidan Davidson, Kevin O'Riordan (c), Kacper Slawinski, Eoghan MacSweeney, Lochlann McCarthy, Cian Haines, Stephen McCarthy, Martin Walsh, Darren Hodnett, Jamie Dunne.
Subs: Farrell Keeling, Shane Dorney, Maciek Beczek, Bill O'Neill, Jamiu Aminu.

Local Cup at home to Bandon
Midleton 3 Bandon 2

League at home to Douglas Hall
Midleton 1 Douglas Hall 0
The Midleton U16 girls got 2012 off to a great start with a terrific win over Douglas Hall in a thrilling match. The game started off at a very fast intense pace with Douglas Hall dominating the game for the first 10 minutes and 2 fantastic saves from Maebh Hennessy in goal kept Midleton in the game and the Midleton girls soon settled into this fast intense game. The back 4 of Rebecca O'Sullivan, Ines Rosa, Una O'Sullivan and Amanda Bennett were flawless with some great defensive play. The midfield duo of Cassie Tynan and Megan O'Regan were outstanding and Cassie Tynan was dominant in this position and had some great link up play with Taylor Kruschel and Ella Morrissey up front. Orla Murphy was outstanding on the left wing using her skill and strength to pressurize the Douglas defence as was Dolapo Bello on the right wing. The score at half time was nil all.
The second half started off as intensely as the first with both teams making great breaks and after 5 minutes Taylor Kruschel made a great break and calmly sidestepped the Douglas keeper to put the Midleton girls in front. Douglas Hall fought back with some great attacking football and Maebh Hennessy again made some terrific saves to keep Douglas from scoring. The final whistle could not come soon enough, a fantastic result for the Midleton girls.
Well done girls.

Cup away to Riverstown
Midleton 7 Riverstown 0
Midleton U16 girls travelled to Riverstown in the opening round of the U16 Evening Echo cup, and to be fair to the Riverstown team, the score line does not reflect the great game they had against an on form Midleton side.
The first half was an even sided game with both teams making breaks but the Midleton midfield of Cassie Tynan and Megan O'Regan proved too strong and were able to provide Taylor Kruschel and Chloe Sigerson with plenty of oppurtunities, with Taylor Kruschel scoring twice and both girls had many shots saved by Jennie Stacey the Riverstown keeper. The first half ended with Midleton leading 2 nil.
The second half saw the Midleton girls pick up a gear and Midleton's Amanda Bennet had a flawless game as sweeper to tidy up in the back line to feed the midfield who then unleashed Chloe Sigerson and Taylor Kruschel who between them scored another 5 goals.
Well done to the Midleton girls but special mention also to Aoife O'Brien, Maeve O'Roirdan, Roisin O'Donovan and Jessica Memhet from Riverstown who played exceptionally well.

Cup Final v Ringmahon Rangers in Turners Cross on 31st May
Ringmahon Rangers 3 Midleton 1
Midleton lost out to a much stronger Ringmahon team in the local cup final in Turners Cross on Tuesday night. In fact, Ringmahon have won every game they have played in Cork this season. Midleton started very well, and had by far the better scoring chances in the first half. However, they conceded a goal just before half-time, which meant they undeservedly went in at the break 1-0 down.
Unfortunately, the lads didn't play at all in the second half, and following the concession of a soft goal early in the half, were quite lucky not to be more than 3-0 down, before Keelan Kennedy scored a late consollation goal.
Well done to coaches Billy Walsh and Ollie Lynch who saw them through to the final.
