League away to Mallow on Sunday 22nd January
Mallow 1 Midleton 1
Today was our longest away trip in the league to Mallow, and the boys wanted to make up for the earlier defeat which we played in Midleton. We took the game early to them and had many chances in the first half, Mallow keeper was exceptional and he kept us at bay till five minutes before halftime when Charley Whalley hit the top corner with a well struck shot.

We started well in the second half and controlled midfield with Joe Stack and Shane O'Riordan seeing a lot of the ball, ten minutes before the end, Mallow got back in the game with a penalty. We pushed on in the last few minutes and created a few chances to win the game through Daniel McGauran, Dale Holland and Tommy O'Connell, but alas today was not going to be our day.
We take a lot from the match as our performance was in complete contrast to the earlier game with Mallow and the lads can now feel that they are improving all the time.

Team - C Evans, O O'Neill ( S Morrissey), C Murray, D Ryan ( M McCarthy), A Horgan, G Hurley ( D Holland), J Stack , T O'Connell, C Whalley ( M Daly), C O'Leary ( D McGauran).

League away to Temple United on Sunday 15th January
Temple United 0 Midleton 5
In this U12 Premier clash Midleton were away to Temple on a very cold and blustery day. In the first half Midleton played against a strong wind but got into their stride very quickly with the midfield taking early control. Joe Stack and Daniel McGauran had a couple of powerful shots well saved by the Temple keeper. Against the run of play Temple broke through the middle but were denied by a brilliant save from Ciaran Evans. Midleton eventually made the break through when Conor O'Leary latched on to a fine pass and rounded the keeper to open the scoring.

With the wind at their backs Midleton started to dominate the midfield area early in the second half and it was no surprise when Tommy O'Connell mad it two with a fine finish. Within a couple of minutes Shane O'Riordan made it three with a low drive into the corner. Temple did have a couple of chances mid way through the half but Ciaran Evans was on top form and made a couple of further outstanding saves. Midleton finished very strongly with Tommy O'Connell scoring his second and Charlie Whalley also going very close. With only a couple of minutes remaining Tommy completed his hat-trick with a powerful shot into the top corner. Midleton can be very proud of an excellent team performance which sets them up nicely for the remainder of the season.

Team - Ciaran Evans, Mark Daly (Owen O'Neill), Sean Morrissey (Mark McCarthy), David Ryan, Alan Horgan, Shane O'Riordan, Joe Stack (Griffin Hurley), Daniel McGauran, Tommy O'Connell, Dale Holland (Charlie Whalley), Conor O'Leary (Ross O'Regan).

League at home to Corinthians Boys on Sunday 8th January
Midleton 2 Corinthians Boys 3
Corinthians ended Midleton's 8 game unbeaten run at home today. Corinthians won this game without scoring from open play which is very unusual. Corinthian's were awarded a soft penalty within the first 10 minutes of the game, which they scored from to put them 1-0 up. Midleton fought back well and equalised on 21 mins through a well taken goal from Dale Holland. Score at half time Midleton 1 Corinthians 1.

The second half started with both teams trying to get a hold of midfield with some great passages of play from both sides. It was Corinthian's who was to get the break on 40 mins when yet again they were awarded a second penalty. This time there could be no complaints. Corinthians player coolly slotted the ball away to take a 2-1 lead in game. It was now all going Corinthians way when they were awarded a free kick just over by the corner flag. What seemed to be a cross was caught by the wind and carried in over the Midletonâ•˙s goalkeepers head. It was a fluke goal to concede. Midleton again fought back and got their reward on 54 mins with a well taken goal by Charlie Whalley. Midleton pressed for an equaliser but time ran out.

Midleton can be very proud that they stopped Corinthians from scoring from open play again. Midleton fought back well in scoring twice from open play against a strong Corinthians team and showed great team spirit to the very end.

Team - Ciaran Evans, Sean Morrissey, Cian Murray (Capt), David Ryan, Owen O'Neill, Alan Horgan,
Tommy O'Connell, Joe Stack, Shane O'Riordan, Daniel McGauran, Dale Holland.
Subs used - Charlie Whalley for Dale Holland
Conor O Leary for Daniel McGauran. Subs not used - Griffin Hurley, Ross O Regan, Mark Daly, David Scanlon.

League at home to Lakewood Athletic on Sunday 18th December
Midleton 2 Lakewood Athletic 1

Midleton U12 managed to play their game this weekend versus Lakewood in Knockgriffin dispite frosty conditions which cancelled many games this weekend. Important game for the lads as a win would push them into third in the table and would bring us closer to the points needed to ensure premiership football next year.
Against the run of play we went one behind midway through the first half, we had many chances through good attacking play from Dale Holland, Shane O'Riordan and strong running from Tommy O'Connell and Joe Stack. Just before half time the deserved equaliser came from a shot saved from Conor O'Leary and a tap in from Dale.

Second half started well for Midleton with more attack play from Dale Holland who went close on a few more occasions. The winner came from a lovely through ball from Daniel Mcgauran to Conor O'Leary, and took a shot that soared over the Lakewood keeper's head. Our defence was strong again today with good performances from Sean, Eoin, Cian and David. Today was another strong solid display from Ciaran in goals whose confidence is growing in every game. Griffin, Ross and Mark McCarthy all came on and played their part in the game.
All finished now till the New Year, and lads are quite happy on their performance for the the first half of the season and look forward to the National Cup in Feb when they will be playing Tuam Celtic.

Team- C Evans, O O'Neill, C Murray, D Ryan, S Morrissey, S O'Riordan, T O'Connell, J Stack (M McCarthy), D McGauran (G Hurley), D Holland, C O'Leary ( R O'Regan).
Other Subs- M Daly, C Whalley, D Scanlon.

League at home to Ringmahon Rangers on Sunday 4th December
Midleton 3 Ringmahon Rangers 0

Midleton took on an in form Ringmahon team at Knockgriffin this morning. Midleton went into this game with the team confidence very high after some great results recently.

Midleton started the game very strong with all the play in the first 10 mins in the Ringmahon half of the field. Midleton's first goal came on 12 mins when a great ball from Joe Stack split the Ringmahon defence. Conor O'Leary ran on to the through ball and despatched a low shot to the bottom right corner of the net. Midleton had their lead and were soon to double the score when Charlie Whalley made a great run towards the Ringmahon goal on 18 mins, only to be hacked down by the advancing keeper just outside the box. A free kick was awarded and Alan Horgan stepped up to take it. Alan fired the ball in over the goalkeeper's head to make 2-0 and Midleton were in total control. Ringmahon had their best spell with 5 mins to go in the first half, winning a couple of corners but Midleton always looked solid at the back with Ciaran Evans really commanding his area. HT Midleton 2 Ringmahon 0.

Midleton made a couple of changes at half time with Dale Holland replacing Charlie Whalley, Daniel Mc Gauran for Conor O'Leary and Mark McCarthy replaced David Ryan. Midleton went looking for their third goal straight from the kick off and went close on 40 mins when Dale Holland and Griffin Hurley linked up well on the right with Dale shooting just wide. Midleton continued to press with Mark Daly replacing Owen O Neill in the Midleton defence. Just on 45 mins Midleton were awarded a free kick on the edge of the Ringmahon box. Daniel Mc Gauran stepped up to take it. Daniel fired in a great free kick which ended up in the Ringmahon net only for the referee to call back play as he had judged the Ringmahon wall was not back far enough. Midleton were now camped in the Ringmahon half and they were soon to be rewarded. On 55 mins Shane O'Riordan made a great run down the right and cut inside to fire a low shot to the bottom right hand corner of the net. Midleton 3 Ringmahon 0. Midleton made one last sub with David Scanlon replacing Griffin Hurley with 3 mins remaining.

Midleton deserved the 3pts with Tommy O Connell, Joe Stack & Shane O Riordan controlling midfield. Alan Horgan & Cian Murray were solid in defence all day. This was another great performance from the Midleton squad.

Midleton Team: Ciaran Evans, Owen O Neill (Mark Daly) Cian Murray (Cpt) David Ryan (Mark Mc Carthy) Alan Horgan,Shane O Riordan,Tommy O Connell,Joe Stack,Griffin Hurley (David Scanlon), Conor O Leary (Daniel Mc Gauran), Charlie Whalley (Dale Holland).
Subs not used: Sean Morrissey, Ross O Regan.

National Cup at home to Everton on Sunday 27th November
Midleton 1 Everton 0

A surprisingly sunny day saw Everton visit Midleton FC for a national cup tie with pitch conditions ideal for the occasion. From the start, both teams tried to impose their physicality on the game but Midleton's desire to win was beginning to show as they challenged well and created some nice passing exchanges. Midleton should have secured their first goal in over a month when Tommy O Connell broke through the Everton defence with a brilliant run and was unfortunate not to be able to convert his effort. Dale Holland, replaced by Conor O Leary with 5 minutes to go, was equally unlucky moments later with a very similar attempt. However, the pressure paid off when a deserved free kick was awarded 10m or so outside the Everton box. Daniel Mc Gauran stood up to boot a dangerous swinging left footed effort into the goal mouth. Cian Murray's attempt to reach the ball was enough to put the keeper off and it found the back of the net. 1-0 half time

The second half started even brighter for Midleton who piled on the pressure and were unlucky not to increase their lead on a number of occasions. Shane O Riordan created havoc down the the right flank with Alan Horgan, replaced by Charlie Whalley for the remaining 15 minutes, and Joe Stack putting in truly fine performances alongside Tommy O Connell in centre field. Everton did have two opportunities later in the second half, one of which was met with a fabulous save by Ciaran Evans. But the stubborn defensive displays by Owen O Neil, Sean Morrissey along with Cian Murray and David Ryan, kept Everton at bay with no real chances. In truth, you could not name one player as MOTM, as this was among the best team performances to date. Credit has to be poured on all members of the squad whose voice could be heard from the sidelines and to the fantastic turnout and attitude towards training in recent weeks. The lads looked like they really enjoyed their game today and let's hope that they can continue and build on today's performance. Well done to the entire squad.

Other Subs - Mark Daly, Mark McCarthy, Griffen Hurley, David Scanlon, Ross O'Regan.

League away to Everton on Sunday 13th November
Everton 2 Midleton 0

U12 travelled up to Togher today to play Everton in the league. Game started well for Midleton with a fabulous shot from Dale Holland that smashed off the crossbar. Soon after Daniel McGauran was in on goal and was brought down in the penalty box, looked like a penalty but not today as the referee was having none of it.  Shortly before half time Everton broke down the left after some missed tackles by Midleton and were in on goal and got the opener.

Second half  was a mixed bag with Midleton slipping a second goal but we had many chances, with shots on goal from  Shane O'Riordan, Tommy O'Connell and Daniel McGauran.

National Cup in two weeks against Everton at home and with a place in the latest 32 up for grabs a big improvement will be needed to progress further in the cup.

Team - C Evans ( R O'Regan), S Morrissey ( M Daly), C Murray, A Horgan, C O'Leary, C Whalley, T O'Connell, O O'Neill, S O'Riordan, D Holland, D McGauran.
Subs - M McCarthy, D Scanlon.

League away to Carrigaline United on 30th October
Carrigaline United 3 Midleton 0

Midleton were away to top of the table Carrigaline and a victory would have put them joint top. Midleton started very bightly and almost scored within 5 minutes when Dale Holland beat the off side trap but the keeper saved well. As the half progressed Carrigaline began to apply some pressure and almost scored with a powerful shot only for Joe Stack to make a great save. Although Carrigaline had more pocession in the first half Midleton had the better chances with Tommy O'Connell and Shane O'Riordan also going close.

Carrigaline made the break through early in the 2nd half when they were awarded a soft penalty which was cooly put away. Within 3 minutes they were 2 up when a quick break through the middle was finished well. Midleton didn't give up and continued to push forward for the remainder of the match but were caught on the break when they conceded the 3rd goal. On the balance of play Carrigaline deserved the win but the score line was not a true reflection of the game. Midleton can be very proud of a great team effort.

David Ryan, Shane O'Riordan (Charlie Whalley), Tommy O'Connell, Owen O'Neill, Daniel McGauran,

League at home to Ballincollig on 23rd October
Midleton 2 Ballincollig 2

Midleton took on Ballincollig today in Knockgriffin in horrendous conditions.Midleton start the game very strong with Dale Holland, Tommy O Connell and Owen O Neill link up well down the right.
Midleton always looked the more likely to open the scoring and on 21 mins Dale Holland made a great run down the right, cut inside along the end line and shot a low powerful ball across the goal line.Ballincollig\'s defender tried to clear but turned it in.Midleton 1 Ballincollig 0.
From the restart Midleton again were on top and went in search of a second. On 26 mins Midleton were awarded a free kick 25 yards out from the Ballincollig goal. Cian Murray unleashed a powerful ball towards goal, which skidded off the Ballincollig defenders head and into the back of the net. Midleton 2 Ballincollig 0 at half time.

Ballincollig started the second half far the stronger team and were determined to get themselves back into the game. Midleton defended well and with Ballincollig finding no way through the Midleton defence, they changed tactics. Ballincollig started to shoot from distance and on 15 mins, from a long range effort Ballincollig got their goal. It came from a high ball in from the left that the Midleton keeper could do nothing about.Midleton 2 Ballincollig 1.
As the rain poured down Ballincollig got their second on 24 mins .Ballincollig winger broke down the right cut inside and slotted the balled into the corner of the in.Midleton 2 Ballincollig 2. Midleton responded well and could have won it with Dale Holland and Charlie Whalley both going close.

Midleton - Ciaran Evans, Owen O'Neill, David Ryan, Cian Murray (Captain), Sean Morrissey, Conor O'Leary,
Tommy O'Connell, Griffin Hurley (Charlie Whalley), Alan Horgan, Dale Holland, Daniel McGauran (Ross O'Regan).

National Cup at home to Macroom on 16th October
Midleton 4 Macroom 1

Midleton started brightly in this 3rd round National Cup match and were one up inside 5 minutes when Ross O'Regan pounced on a rebound from the Macroom goalkeeper and finished well. Midleton continued to apply the pressure and it was no surprise when Dale Holland scored with a long range shot which found the top corner. Just before half time Midelton broke down the right and when the ball arrived in the box Conor O'Leary finished from close range.

In the 2nd half Midleton switched off for long periods and were made to pay when Macroom scored a deserved goal with a powerful shot. This seemed to wake Midleton up and they started to put some nice passing movements together. They were rewarded with 5 minutes left when Daniel McGauran finished well following a lovely one/two between Sean Morrissey and Tommy O'Connell. Star performers for Midleton were David Scanlon and Mark Daly in defence with Griffin Hurley and Ross O\'Regan also playing very well. Both teams should be commended for a very sporting and enjoyable match.

C.Evans, D.Scanlon, M.Daly, C.Murray (D.Ryan), A.Horgan (O.O'Neill), D.Holland, G.Hurley, J.Stack (T.O'Connell), S.Morrissey, R.O'Regan (D.McGauran), C.O'™Leary (C.Whalley)

League at home to Temple  United on 9th October
Midleton 3 Temple  United 0

Sunday morning at 10.30 and Midleton entertained Temple United to a Cork Schoolboys Premier league game, important game for our lads as a win would bring them up the table. We started well and Daniel McGauran had two through ball chances that both bobbled past the post. First goal came to Joe Stack who put the Temple   keeper the wrong way from 30 yards. Temple equalised quickly and went into a shock lead early in the second half. This Midleton team knows how to fight back and dig deep for inspiration and yet again they delivered, a quick move involving Tommy O Connell, Daniel McGauran and Dale Holland produced the equaliser. With only minutes remaining Dale Holland broke on the left wing ,got to the byline and sent a low cross into the  box, where Charlie Whalley was arriving from a deep run, 3-2 Midleton. Temple pushed on for the last few minutes and we had to defend a few corners , but time ran out for Temple.
Another great team performance from the whole squad  who know have a few results behind them and look forward to the next round of the National Cup next weekend.

Team - C Evans, O O'Neill (S Morrissey), D Ryan, C Murray ( R O'Regan), A Horgan, S O'Riordan (M Daly),
T O'Connell, J Stack (G Hurley), C Whalley, D McGauran, C O Leary (D Holland).

League away to College Corinthians on 2nd October
College Corinthians 0 Midleton 0

Midleton were away to College Corinthians AFC on a calm and damp day in Donnybrook, Douglas. The pitch conditions were ideal as Midleton began well and came close early on with a great effort from Shane O Riordan hitting the cross bar. Midleton had another chance minutes later when Alan Horgan delivered a corner which curled into the box and went between the keepers legs. The ball appeared to cross the line but was cleared very quickly and play continued. A physical Corinthians side started to press after 15 minutes or so and had a great chance when one of the forwards managed to break through a quite solid Midleton defense. However, David Ryan has to be commended for what can only be described as an excellent tackle from behind to reclaim possession and maintained composure to pass the ball safely out of the Midleton box. Corinthians came again later and were almost rewarded for a great strike from outside the box but hit the cross bar and went out. The Midleton defense stood firm though and took the game to the break scoreless.

The second half started with a bit more vigor but again it was a scrappy affair for 10 minutes or so as both sides battled for control. Midleton did pick it up however with some nice passing play and their fitness began to show as some chances were created. Corinthians only real chance of the second half came from a good cross in to the near post but it was taken well by Kieran Evans in goals. Charlie Whalley was replaced by Dale Holland and there was a switch of roles for Daniel Mc Gauran up front and Joe Stack in centre mid-field. Griffen Hurley came on for Owen O Neill who defended well at right back. Ross O Regan replaced Conor O Leary up front as Midleton emptied the bench for fresh legs. Midleton put together two great breaks and were unlucky not to score especially when Daniel put Joe through, unfortunately his effort from outside the box went right and wide.

It seemed to be \'one of those days\', probably for both teams to be fair but Midleton will look back and be reasonably happy to take a point from this tough tie. As they had done the week before, Midleton gave their all with great heart. Good performances throughout. Final score 0-0

National Cup at home to Greenwood on 25th September
Midleton 3 Greenwood 2

Greenwood , leaders of Cork Schoolboys Division 1 and unbeaten so far this season came to Knockgriffin to play Midleton in the National Cup. Weather conditions for the game were far from perfect, with wind and torrential rain prevalent.
Game started well for home side and Dale Holland found the net early in the first half with a nice inswinging shot. Greenwood equalised soon after from the penalty spot and Midleton were lucky not to go behind in the first half only for a great reflex save from our goal keeper, Ciaran Evans.

Greenwood went into a shock lead early in the second half. A few changes were made and soon, with Joe Stack's growing influence in centre field we began to pile on the pressure. Daniel McGauran came close on a few occasions and with five minutes left in normal time Daniel got our well deserved equaliser. A strange goal as we all watched the ball dribble towards an empty net and it could very easy have been either side of the post. Extra time beckoned and during the first half it was all Midleton, Conor  O'Leary broke through the centre after a through ball and only had the keeper to beat, 3 -2 to the Magpies.

With the extra 20 minutes Greenwood started to tire and Midleton came away with a well deserved cup victory, the team's comeback and never say die attitude must be commended.  Good performances today from Joe Stack and Alan Horgan.
Team  - C Evans, O'Neill (D Scanlon), M McCarthy, J Stack, A Horgan, T O'Connell (M Daly),
G Hurley (S Morrissey), S O'Riordan, D Holland (C Whalley), C O'Leary, D McGauran.

League away to Lakewood Athletic on Sunday 18th September 2011
Lakewood Athletic 5 Midleton 2

Midleton travelled to Ovens to play Lakewood Athletic on a blustery Sunday morning. Although Lakewood fielded only nine players initially, they piled on early pressure and surprised Midleton with an early goal from a corner on six minutes. Midleton regrouped as Shane O'Riordan raced down the right wing and cut in to take a great strike to level the scores. A good spell of pressure from Midleton saw two good efforts put inches wide and over the cross bar. Midleton struggled to keep any real possession though as Lakewood defended from midfield and stifled any attacks from here. Now at full strength, Lakewood scored two more goals, capitalising on a goalkeeping error and scoring from a penalty. Lakewood had a 3-1 advantage but in the 25th minute Midleton responded with a great attacking ball crossed to Conor O'Leary who finished with a cracking overhead half volley into the back of the net. Having run his heart out, a tired Alan Horgan was replaced up front by Joe Stack who made decent efforts to improve Midleton's cause before the half time whistle. Half time score 3-2.

The second half saw Charlie Whalley replace Griffen Hurley who put in a gritty performance at left mid-field. Lakewood continued to frustrate Midleton with their staunch defence and broke away down the right wing again this time cutting in and delivering a fabulous cross to give the striker a simple tap in. Daniel Mc Gauran, just back from a four week injury, gave his all and was replaced by Dale Holland in mid-field as Midleton tried introducing fresh legs and did create some chances but failed to convert them into goals. Ross O'Regan also came on for an exhausted Conor O'Leary and on a couple of occasions linked well with both Joe Stack, now moved back to mid-field, and Dale Holland pushing up. But the aerial superiority of the Lakewood defence stood firm, dashing any real hope of a Midleton comeback. Five minutes from time, appeals for a Midleton penalty were dismissed and from the clearance Lakewood stormed down the right side yet again with a great cross somehow fumbled into the Midleton net sinking the hearts of a truly stunned Midleton side.

While the score line was perhaps a little flattering, Lakewood played a solid and tactically simple game and won the 50/50 battle to overcome a Midleton side full of heart.

Team : Ciaran Evans, Mark Daly, Sean Morrissey, Owen O'Neill, Cian Murray (Captain), Shane O'Riordan, Griffen Hurley, (Charlie Whalley), Daniel Mc Gauran, (Dale Holland),Tommy O'Connell, Conor O'Leary, (Ross O Regan), Alan Horgan, (Joe Stack).

League at home to Douglas Hall on Sunday 11th September 2011
Midleton 3  Douglas Hall 1

Midleton took on Douglas Hall in Knockgriffin today in what can only be described as far from ideal conditions. Midleton won the toss and decided to play against  a very strong wind in the first half. Midleton started very strong in the first 10 mins and they soon had their first real chance when the referee awarded them a free kick just outside the Douglas Hall area. Alan Horgan took the free and rifled the ball to the back of the Douglas Hall net with a sweet strike. Midleton had a well deserved lead.

Douglas Hall hit back straight away with a good break down the right, resulting in a corner. Douglas, aided by the wind, swept a ball in at the near post where their forward turned quickly to strike the ball into the back of the Midleton net. Midleton continued to be the stronger team in the first half with great runs down the right wing by Shane O’ Riordan, while our backline and midfield were now in total control as the rain started to fall. Referee called time on the first half with the score at 1-1.

Midleton made two changes before the second half started, replacing Charlie Whalley  for Dale Holland & Sean Morrissey for Owen O’ Neill. Midleton again started the second half strongly  with great efforts from Alan Horgan, Tommy O’ Connell & Shane O’ Riordan. The wind  that had been a big factor in the first half had died down. The Douglas keeper was kept busy but was also in great form pulling off some great saves. Midleton were to get their second goal when Shane O’ Riordan again broke down the right wing, cutting into the box and firing a rocket into the bottom left hand corner. Midleton had learned from the first half and were not going to give up the lead again. Douglas Hall came back strongly  but the Midleton defence stood strong with Cian Murray, David Ryan & Mark Daly keeping the Douglas forwards quiet. Ciaran Evans made a great save from Douglas Hall, who were now reduced to shooting from long range.

Midleton were soon raiding down the left wing again with Dale Holland that resulted in a corner. Alan Horgan crossed the ball into the box where Dale Holland headed in at the far post. Midleton were now in total control with Alan Horgan going close with a chip over the advancing Douglas keeper that just bounced wide. The referee blew the final whistle on what can be described as a complete team performance. It was a day for the players to stand up and be counted and Midleton were not found short. Congratulations to the lads on a well deserved win.

Team : Ciaran Evans, Mark Daly, Sean Morrissey (Owen O'Neill), David Ryan, Cian Murray (Captain),
Shane O'Riordan, Charlie Whalley (Dale Holland), Griffen Hurley, Tommy O'Connell,
Conor O'Leary (Joe Stack), Alan Horgan.
Goal Scorers: Alan Horgan, Shane O’ Riordan, Dale Holland.

League away to Ringmahon on Sunady 4th September
Ringmahon 3  Midleton 6

Midleton came away from Ringmahon with a well deserved victory following a great display of attacking football. Midletion got into their stride quickly and were ahead early on with a long range effort from Alan Horgan. Midleton continued to dominate the early exchanges with Tommy O'Connell pulling the strings in midfield. The pressure was rewarded when Dale Holland scored with a powerful header from a corner. A few minutes later Conor O'Leary made in 3-0 following a well worked move. Ringmahon came back strongly in the last ten minutes of the half and pulled one back from the penalty spot.

Midleton started the second half as they did the first and were controlling the game with some fine passing moves and it was no surprise when Shane O'Riordan burst down the right and scored with an unstoppable shot. Midleton kept the pressure on and Conor O'Leary made it 5 with a close range effort. Ringmahon never gave up and came back into the game with two excellent strikes which gave the Midleton keeper no chance. As the game moved into the last five minutes Ringmahon continued to push forward but the Midleton defence stood firm and Ciaran Evans made a couple of good saves. But it was Midelton who had the last say with a quick break and Conor O'Leary capped a fine display by completing his hatrick.

Team - Ciaran Evans, Owen O'Neill, Sean Morrissey, David Ryan (Mark Daly), Cian Murray, Shane O'Riordan, Tommy O'Connell, Dale Holland, Alan Horgan (Griffin Hurley), Charlie Whalley (Ross O'Regan), Conor O'Leary.
Scorers - Conor O'Leary 3, Alan Hogan, Dale Holland, Shane O'Riordan.

League away to Mallow on Sunday 28th August.
Mallow 3 Midleton 0

On a beautiful sunny Sunday morning , Midleton U-12 kicked off their new season in the Cork Schoolboys Premier League versus Mallow.
Game started well for Midleton with Ross O'Regan hammering a shot against the underside of the crossbar. Mallow pushed on in the first half and scored the opener from a free kick outside the box. Midleton fought back during the first half with many attacks down the right wing by Shane O'Riordan and were unlucky not to equalise.

In the second period Midleton continued to attack but Mallow 's strong defence and goalkeeper stood firm, Mallow hit twice early in the second half on counter attacks and score two more goals. Midleton piled on pressure in the last few minutes and deserve a goal from their efforts with Alan Horgan, Conor O'Leary and Tommy O'Connell all going close.

Final score was 3 nil to Mallow but Midleton take heart from showing a fighting determination that we will see many times during the rest of the season as we play the other teams in the premier league.
Man of the match for Midleton must go to Shane O'Riordan whose gave an great display of how an attacking winger should play. Roll on our next game .

Team : C Evans, S Morrissey, C Murray (Captain), M Daly,  O O Neill, R O Regan (D Ryan), T O Connell, M McCarthy ( G Hurley), S O Riordan, A Horgan, C O Leary

Under 12A Division 2 2011/12

Local Cup at home to Douglas Hall A on Sunday 22nd January
Midleton 4 Douglas Hall A 1

The sun was shining in Knockgriffin today in more ways than one. The 12A looked good from the whistle, gaining posession after losing the toss.
Looking like scoring at any moment, 15 minutes into first half Dylan Healy beating 4 defenders placed a tidy shot into bottom right corner of net. Then disaster when we were caught napping Douglas had 3 attempts at keeper Darragh Cashman 3rd attempt rolls into net. 1-1. We re-grouped very sharply and attacked again 5 minutes before half time. Sean O'Sullivan, Daragh Moran, Evan Rowlands, Dylan Healy and Gary Carroll geling in midfield sending Ciaran Murphy into back 4 again, Ciaran confidentally striking ball to left of keeper. 2-1 at halftime.

We seemed to dominate second half, the pressure getting to the Douglas defence, a free kick 10 yards outside left of box Darragh Moran powers the ball high into right of goal the keeper could only tip the ball without success we now had a 2 goal lead. 3-1 up we kept the pressure on, Evan Rowlands fouled in nearly the identical place of first free kick. De ja vu! Darragh hits the same shot from free, keeper didn't see this one, Final score 4-1. Well done Lads.

League away to Castleview on Saturday 26th November
Castleview 1 Midleton 5

Midleton 12A played away to Castleview with only one thought in there minds, A Win! with a positive attitude they played a careful start but the nerves set off a bad start, hand ball giving Castleview a penalty in the first few minutes,1-0 to Castleview, Midleton responded punching shots at goal but unable to hit the target.

1-0 down at half time a good team talk changed the sunken heads in second half, attacking every chance! Top right corner Dylan Healy setting the trend makes it 1-1, again we hit hard 3 in a row by Cian Murphy delited with his, hat trick swings a long ball onto left wing for Ellis Rowlands clipped by sean O'Sullivan back again to Ellis who hits defender and on deflection hammers ball home making the final score 5-1.
The defence stayed solid and the midfield made it hard work for Castleview to get near.

League at home to Kanturk on Sunday 13th November
Midleton 3 Kanturk 3

Midleton 12A stopped the rot this week with a gallant 3-3 draw against Kanturk. The midfield played a big part in this match Evan Rowlands, Sean O'Sullivan, pushing Darragh Moran into site of goal. Falling in front of keeper he managed to scramble a toe to the ball over the keeper putting us back in game making it one a piece. Then Kanturk came back making it 2-1 o,n which we replied with a well timed run from Dylan Healy beating keeper with a well placed goal near right post, now 2-2. Then Ellis Rowlands came from L/mid beating 2 defenders powering ball into right corner of net. 3-2 to us and then Kanturk hit us again 3-3.

Midleton attempted some great shots with a 4th goal header missed by the ref and unrewarded.
It was said '120 percent' played by Midleton today.

Under-12 Girls

Local Cup away to Lakewood on Saturday 21st January
Lakewood 3 Midleton 0

This was one of those scorelines that just doesn't reflect the game in any way. The game started with a Lakewood attack but for long periods after that it was all Midleton.
The game was played in a great spirit by both teams and both sets of girl's worked their socks off for the hour.
The majority of the chances fell our way in the first half with Courtney going close on a number of occasions, hitting the post three times. Lauren also went close to scoring and also hit the post. Lakewood had limited attacks in the first half but 5 minutes from half time they broke forward and a great shot to the roof of the net was just too high for Shauna to reach. As half time approached Lauren took a knock on her knee and had to leave the action. Aishling Murphy came on to do her bit for the team.

The second half started with the girls having to defend in numbers against the wind and break forward as often as they could. Chances were harder to come by in the second half and when chances were made Lakewoods goalkeeper managed to keep us out. Then in the middle of the second half a short kick out from Shauna was won by Lakewood and finished to the net. To the girls credit they continued to give their all and could with a bit of luck got a goal back, only to again find the Lakewood keeper in top form. Then with only minutes left a corner which was well struck was finished to the net by a solid first touch. Three-nil did no justice to the girls and I m sure they look forward to meeting Lakewood again in the league. Best Wishes to Lauren for a speedy recovery.

Team- Shauna Horgan,Rayanna Clarkin Power,Kate Dineen,Catherine Walsh,Aishat Onilogb,Rose Goggin,Courtney Histon,Lauren Linehan,Shannon Cremin,Aishling Harty,Lucy Horgan, Aishling Murphy,Ellen Harty,Niamh Molloy,Susan Roche.

League at home to Blarney on Saturday 14th January
Midleton 3 Blarney 1

This way the girls first game after the Christmas break but they managed to get back to winning ways after a scare when they trailed 1-0 with only 15 minutes to go.

We started with a solid defense of Ryanna in goals and Niamh,Catherine and Ellen across the back line. Shannon, Lauren and Aishat (Capt) in midfield and Aishling Murphy and Susan Roche making her first start in attack. The game started well with Shannon playing very well on the right wing and a few chances being created which we failed to take. The game was moving from end to end with Blarney certainly playing well above their position in the group. They broke through a few time only to find Niamh, Ellen and Catherine too difficut to get past and when they did Ryanna dealt with anything she needed to. After a few near misses the score remained 0-0 at half time.

We changed the team around at half time and Shauna came into goals and Aishling Harty into attack while Aishling Murphy moved into defense along side Diana. This seemed to unsettle the girls a little at first and Blarney made a quick break which ended with their centre forward finishing with a great shot. This now became a big test for our girls but one which they rose to with great credit. Lauren and Aishat worked very hard and started to create chances which we just failed to convert. Shannon kept causing problems down the right wing and on one occasion Catherine broke out of defense and looked like nobody could stop her,she took the ball all the way to their endline before having her cross blocked. Straight away she turned and sprinted back into her defensive role, this gave us all a lift and with fifteen minutes left good work on the right by Shannon gave Susan a chance which she finished with a powerful shot. The girls and all their supporters were delighted. Again Susan was on hand to finished another move to the net within 5 minutes, not bad for her first game. The game was settled with a few minutes to go when Aishling Harty got her reward for all her hard work on the day and scored. The defense of Catherine, Diana and Aishling Murphy gave nothing away. Aishling Harty did take a knock near the end and Kate Dineen came on to finish the game even though she was carrying an injury on the day. It was great to see this commitment to the team and also Rose Goggin who was injured recently there to shout her team on. Here's wishing her a speedy recovery and we look forward to her return. So in the end we won on a 3-1 score line and go into next weeks Cup Semi final away to Lakewood in good form after a very testing contest.

Team- Ryanna Clarkin Power, Shauna Horgan, Catherine Walsh, Niamh Murphy ,Diana Browne ,Ellen Harty, Shannon Cremin, Lauren Linehan, Aishat Onilogb (Capt), Aishling Murphy, Aishling Harty, Susan Roche,
Kate Dineen and Lucy Horgan.

League away to Richmond on Sunday 18th December
Richmond 0 Midleton 7

In what was a very cold morning the girls got straight into it when this match started. The pitch was heavy and the grass a bit on the long side but the girls took no notice of this and got on with playing their usual passing game.

We didn t have to wait long to take the lead when Courtney was there to get us off the mark after only 5 minutes. She was again the scorer of our second after only another 2 minutes. A good move involving Lauren and Courtney down the left ended with Ashling Murphy finishing the ball to the net to score what would be the first of 2 goals on the day for her, not alone did she score her first goal for the team but also her second. The girls continued to play the ball to each other and a good move ended with Rose Goggin going threw the middle of their defence and she made no mistake with an unstopable shot. We were all delighted to see her score her first goal for the team and we look forward to plenty more. Ellen, Niamh and Lucy came on to play defence and attack. The half time score was 4-0.

We changed the team around at half time and moved Shauna & Aishat to midfield and Rose into goals, with Niamh and Ellen coming into defence. Catherine continued to dominate at centre back and with the help of Diana they gave little away.We waited a while for the girls to get into things in the second half but good work in midfield by Aishat and Shauna saw chances made and after about 15 minutes Courtney completed her hat trick followed quickly by goals from Ashling Murphy and also by Ashling Harty scoring for the second match in a row on the day she Captained the team. All in all a great performance and they finish 2011 with a 100% record in both league and cup and we hope that 2012 will be as successful for them.Player of the Match was Ashling Murphy.

Team - Shauna Horgan, Aishat Onilgbo, Ashling Harty(Capt.), Rose Goggin, Lauren Linehan, Asling Murphy, Courtney Histon, Lucy Horgan, Niamh Molloy ,Ellen Harty, Catherine Walsh, Dianna Browne.

Local Cup at home to Buttervant on Saturday 3rd December
Midleton 2 Buttervant 1
This was a cracking cup tie from start to finish. We started slow and found ourselves under pressure for the first 10 minutes. We gradually got into the game and had a few chances before half time. Also Buttervant had chances to take the lead but good defending from Aishat,Catherine and Dianna, supported behind by Shauna in goals managed to keep them at bay. We failed to take any of the chances that came our way and it was all square at half time.

The second half saw us come more into the game and a great attack down the right wing ended in Ashling Harty hitting an unstoppable shot into the bottom left hand corner of the net off the foot of the post. The game continued from end to end with chances at both ends and finally Buttervant got the break they needed and Shauna had to pick the ball out of the net. Lauren,Shannon and Rose worked their socks off getting up and down the pitch and Ashling Murphy gave everything for the team. The game finished at 1-1 and into extra time we went.
Extra time was more of the same with both teams doing everything they could to get the all important goal.Kate Dinneen came on up front and did very well and Niamh Molloy came into the attack for the second half of extra time. In the final couple of minutes the girls pushed forward and after several attempts at goal the ball finally fell to Shannon who finished it to the net. Great celebretions followed and the game finished within minutes.Player of the Match was Ashling Harty.

Team: Shauna Horgan, Aishat Onilogb, Dianna Browne, Catherine Walsh, Rose Goggin, Shannon Cremin, Lauren Linehan, Ashling Murphy, Ashling Harty, Lucy Horgan, Kate Dinneen, Niamh Molloy.

Friendly away to Lakewood on Saturday 26th November
Lakewood 1 Midleton 1

The girls traveled to Ballincollig to play Lakewood who started their season with 3 straight wins just like our girls, so this was always going to be a big test for us.
The morning was dry but windy and we started the game playing against the win and a slight hill on the pitch.
So it turned out to be back s to the wall for most of the first half and in the end the home side took a deserved lead.

In the second half we played with more control and pressed forward on many occasions. Lauren Linehan getting into good positions on a few occasions only to see her shots well saved by the Lakewood keeper. All the girls from Shauna and Ryanna in goals to Catherine, Aishat, Kate and Dianna in defence to our midfielders Shannon, Rose(playing her first game), Aishling and Lauren worked really hard and up front Niamh, Ellen and Lucy never gave up. In the end Lauren got her reward for her efforts on goal with a well deserved equaliser.
It was a great work out for the girls after a 3 week layoff, we look forward now to playing Buttervant at home in the first round of the cup.

Team - Ryanna Clarkin Power, Shauna Horgan, Aishat Onilogb, Kate Desmond, Catherine Walsh, Dianna Browne, Lauren Linehan, Shannon Cremin, Rose Goggin, Aishling Harty, Ellen Harty, Niamh Molloy(Capt.,
Lucy Horgan.

League at home to Carrigaline on Saturday 5th November
Midleton 9 Carrigaline 0

The girls started their third league game at home to Carrigaline with a 100% record and managed to keep it in tact after a comprehenive win over a young Carrigaline side.
The game started very competitive and both sides could have taken the lead and but for very solid performances from Goalkeeper Rayanna Clarkin Power and her defenders Catherine Walsh,Aishat Olatunji and Kate Dineen it could all have been a different story. It took the girls a while to get going and will need to be better prepared for the start of their next game. It took a great move by Courtney Histon which was finished by Lauren Linehan to get us off the mark after 15 minutes. We had to wait till just before half time to get our next goal which was well finished by Dianna Browne for her first goal of the season.

The girls started at a much fasted pace in the second half and before they knew what hit them Carrigaline were a beaten side. Courtney added 2 goals to her seasons tally and Lauren got her second hat trick in a row and finished the game with 4 goals. Shannon Cremin helped herself to 2 goals in a Man of the Match performance and could have made it a hat trick before the end.Shauna Horgan played a holding role in midfield in the first half before taking over the goalkeeping role in the second half with another clean sheet. Rayanna took up the centre forward role in the second half and almost scored her first goal of the season. The other girl to play on the day was Lucy Horgan who was making her first appearance of the season and did very well ,almost scoring on a couple of occasions. She's the youngest member of the team and we look forward to her making many more appearances.

Team- Rayanna Clarkin Power, Kate Dineen, Catherine Walsh, Aishat Olatunji, Shauna Horgan,
Dianna Browne, Lauren Linehan, Shannon Cremin, Lucy Horgan, Courtney Histon.

Best Wishes to Courtney, Shannon, Catherine, Lauren and Shauna who have been selected to train with the Cork Development Squad. Starting from Monday 7th Nov.

League at home to Crosshaven
Midleton 9 Crosshaven 0

This match proved to be a great game for our girls to get back to winning ways after the experience in the national 7 a side blitz last week.
We started with great determination and with Catherine Walsh as Captain leading by example with some great work at the back assisted by Aishat and Dianna Browne. Some early attacks from Crosshaven were well dealt with by the back three and Shauna Horgan in goals.
Then we got into the game more ourselves and the arrival of Courtney Histon set of the goal rush.
Courtney set about things very quickly and had us in the lead within minutes of arrival. She went on to further extend our lead with some great help from Shannon Cremin and Ashling Murphy. Niamh Molloy was working very hard in her new position up front and helped Courntney to complete her hat trick.

Before the half time break Courtney had helped heself to a fourth goal and the match was over as a contest.
The second have started as the first finished and with a few changes of positions the girls set about extending their lead. Kate Dineen was having a fine game at the back now as Catherine moved into midfield. Lauren Linehan took on the roll of goal scorer in the second half and helped herself to a second half hat trick as Courtney went on to complete a second hat trick. Also Shannon Cremin was unlucky to add to her seasons tally on a couple of occasions. About half way into the second half Niamh took up the goalkeeping position and Shaune moved the the full back position and did very well in her first game of the season.
Team - Shauna Horgan, Dianna Browne, Aishat, Kate Dineen, Catherine Walsh, Shannon Cremin, Courtney Histon, Lauren Linehan, Niamh Molloy, Ashling Murphy.

Six girls from the club (Aishat, Charley, Shannon, Lauren, Courtney and Shauna) were guests of the FAI at Tuesday nights game between Rep. Of Ireland and Armenia. They took part in a six a side mixed game at half time and really enjoyed the night at the Aviva Stadium. This was a great honour for our club and the girls did us all proud on the night. Congratulations to them all.

League away to Ballinhassig on 24th September
Ballinhassig Midleton

The girls U12s traveled to Ballinhassig on Saturday to play their first league game of the season. This season the U12s will play 9 a-side from 18yd box to 18yd box, with roll on roll off subs. Unfortunately we had a few missing due to illness and had to play with just 8 players.
The game started well and the girls settled in well to this new format. We opened the scoring after 10 minutes with a well taken goal by Shannon Cremin after hard work by Courtney Histon set up the chance. Courney followed this up with a goal of her own struck from 20yards out into the roof of the net. Ballinhassig came back into the game with two good goals of their own to level the game dispite the good play by Captain Rayanna Clarkin Power in goals. Catherine Walsh, Aishat Onilogbo and Kate Dineen performed very well in defence, stoping many of the Ballinhassig attacks. Then we retook the lead after great work from Aisling Murphy and Lauren Linehan lead to Lauren being fouled in the penalty area and she stood up and sent it to the back of the net. Leading at half time and the girls deserved their break.

The second half started as fast as the first and mid way through Courtney extended our lead with a great finish. Meanwhile the fact that we had one player less was really making life difficult of us and the girls had to dig deep to keep going. Catherine was having a great game in the heart of our defence and came to our rescrue many times. Then Ballinhasssig scored a great goal with an unstopable shot from 20yds. The girls dug in for the last 10 minutes and almost scored a couple of times but also had to defend with all their hearts. We held on for a great win to start the season specially when you consider we played with only 8 players.
Player of the Match was Catherine Walsh.
Well done to all the girls and we look forward to our trip to Dublin next week for the U13 UMBRO All Ireland Blitz finals

Cup Final v Mallow United in Turners Cross on 30th May
Midleton 2 Mallow United 4 (aet)

Midleton U12s lost out in a dramatic and exciting U12 cup final in Turners Cross to an excellent Mallow team. Midleton went 1-0 up through an excellent Garan Manley goal, in a first half that they dominated. However, Mallow scored 2 minutes into injury time from a corner - a goal that meant that they were now back in the game, and were set to play with a strong wind in the second half. Mallow then dominated this half, and semmed to have wrapped up the win with a good goal by their striker Joe Lane. However, with only a minute left to play, the excellent Barry O'Callaghan scored a super equaliser into the bottom corner of the net to take the game to extra time.
Extra time however, saw Mallow take control, with their striker scoring two more to complete his hat-trick.
Well done to Midleton, and their management team of Geoff Lamb, Rob O'Connor and John Lamb. They were a credit to the large Midleton following that supported them in the final and throughout the season.

Semi Final of the Cup away to Springfield Ramblers 19th May 2011
Springfield 2 Midleton 2. AET Midleton wins 3 to 2 on penalties
On a fine evening for a match Midleton took to the field to face the might of the Premier League Champions Springfield Ramblers. Midleton had a change of formation from the usual 442 to a 451 as a mark of respect due to a very strong Springer’s midfield.
At the ko Midleton pressed forward winning all the challenges and getting off to a very quick start. With instructions to attack down the flanks that’s what they did, China Igboanusi with his powerful running was terrorizing the Springer’s left back. After four minutes we won a foul on the edge of the area for a push on Christian. With Garan standing over the ball he was given instructions to go for goal, his shot heading goal wards was deflected off the defenders head and into the back of the net, just the start we wanted. From the ko the Mags pressed on and they had the opponents panicking at the back with the constant pressure down the flanks. The move of the game came from a ball played across the midfield and down the left wing onto Barry O’Callaghan who cut inside the defender to finish off with an accurate strike into the net, all this after only ten minutes play. Impressive in the first half were Rian Hogan and Ross O’Connor in defense who between them they started off a lot of the attacks, Stephen Roe playing as the extra midfielder was excellent as were Garan Manley and Matthew Lamb in the middle of the park, this was no easy game as the Springer’s players were very physical but fair. On one of their few attacks they broke into the Midleton area only for Corey Mackessy in the Midleton goal to bring down the player, the referee had no choice but to give a penalty. Corey gave away the pen but in a moment of magic he pulled off a cracking save from the kick. For the rest of the half Midleton battled on with Christian working tirelessly up front with another fine performance. H/T 0-2

In the second half Springfield had to come forward and they did, the defenders Paudraig O’Brien and Cathal Martin played brilliantly as a central defensive partnership keeping the strikers at bay and the midfielders having to battle all the way. All the time Springfield was getting closer but the lads kept them at bay with some timely challengers. With only six minutes left Springfield were awarded a corner that they were lucky to win which they finished with a fine headed goal. In truth their play deserved one goal. They kept on pressing and in the dying moments they sneaked a headed goal under the unfortunate keeper Corey Mackessy. A tale of two halves. In extra time there only looked to be one winner “Midleton”. After what happened to them in the closing stages of regular time any other team would have folded and lost the game but this team is made of something else. The one bit of controversy came when a double red card was delivered with Christian Daly being very unfortunate to see red alongside the Springfield midfielder who was already on a yellow. Although the better team in extra time and with Andy McMahon coming on for the injured China Igbonusi and Ryan O’Regan replacing the battered Rian Hogan we could not find the net F/T 2-2

Penalties. With great celebration we came out on top 3 to 2. Paudraig Ross and Garan scoring, Ross had to retake his and with great bottle he buried both kicks Andy had his saved and Stephen hit a post. No one likes losing on penalties but Springfield players and coaches were gracious in defeat. Roll on Turners Cross.

League away to Ringmahon Rangers on 5th May 2011
Ringmahon 1 Midleton 4

Tough conditions for the last league game of the season with the wind blowing a gale at Ringmahon Park. To be fair it seemed that Ringmahon were the hungrier of the two teams in this encounter. Midleton with the League trophy already on the trophy cabinet and Ringmahon pushing, as were Blarney in the last game for promotion to the Premership Division. The home team was asking all the questions at the outset firing in some long range efforts with the wind at their backs. After nine minutes it took a great save from Corey in the Midleton goal to keep the sides level. Only two minutes later Ringmahon took a deserved lead with an unstoppable shot that Corey had no chance with. As we have found all season when Midleton have a job to do they go to work. Even fighting the strong wind the lads dug deep. In the closing stages of the half Ringmahon had a throw in, Matthew Lamb pressed and won the ball feigned to cross with his right and won space to cross with the left boot to put in a lovely ball that Christian Daly rose to and put into the net . 1-1. With the restart Midleton pressed on again and was awarded a free kick twenty five meters out. Garan took the kick which was not easily cleared by the Ringmahon defense and Paudraig pounced on the ball and buried it into the Ringmahon goal. H/T 1-2

In the second half Midleton smelling blood pressed on, Christian one on one with the keeper was unlucky after a cracking cross from China only for his effort to be saved by the Ringmahon keeper. After fifteen minutes again Christian who was a thorn in the side of the home team all day attacked the defense only for the ball to break for Barry O’Callaghan to slot home our third. It was pretty much game over then when Christian found his second goal and Midleton’s fourth of the day. That was Midleton’s Sixty-eight goal of the league season, twenty league goals in twelve games alone for Christian, a marvelous contribution. F/T 1-4

The man of the match was as is usual a hard choice with Eoin Mitchel performing very well after starting at the left midfield position and Stephen and Cathal playing very well in defense. The midfield all putting in a lot of work and Christian doing what comes naturally in attack. But today the choice has to be Christian with a team performance that he should be proud of. To say he worked his socks off is not enough, overall he was outstanding, a performance to be proud of. Excellent work Christian.

League home to Blarney 24th April 2011
Midleton 5 Blarney 1

The last league match against Blarney was in September when we put eight past them in one of our better displays of the season. This match was not an easy affair with Blarney having added some new faces to their panel. Physically Blarney were well up for the challenge giving our lads hard but fair challenges, they would not make it easy for Midleton not forgetting that they are looking for promotion to the Premiership also. It took until the fifteenth minute for the Magpies to get the breakthrough and it came from the boot of our Captain Garan. Just outside the area he picked up the ball when he cut inside on to his right foot to unleash a shot that just beat the Blarney keeper. Midleton and Garans second came from his trusty left foot when he managed to beat the keeper with a lobbed effort from twenty yards. Just approaching the half time Blarney got one back after Kieran in goal was just beaten from a strong shot taken by the Blarney left midfielder. H/T 2-1

The second half was still a tough affair with Blarney pushing for the equalizer. The Midleton backline which included the very impressive Stephen Roe had to be tough with some very physical challengers coming in. Some changes had to be made at the half with Corey replacing Kieran in goal and the injured Ross O’Connor being replaced by Jamie Clohessy. Blarney pressed, Midleton held, a game of cat and mouse. Another change with Garan being replaced by Ryan O’Regan in the middle and Eoin Mitchel coming on for Andrew McMahon in attack. Kevin Mulcahey also replaced Rian Hogan in defense. With Midletons Captain missing Blarney maybe thought they could get back into the game only this seemed to gel Midleton into playing their best football of the game. Twenty minutes into the second half our tough nut in midfield Matt Lamb won the ball twenty yards out and set his sights on goal when he drove the ball into the top corner of the net. Only his second league goal of the season but it was worth waiting for. Blarney heads went down and Midleton pressed on when two minutes later Christian with another tireless performance received the ball from a Lamb pass to calmly score number four. The final goal also went to Christian Daly after Barry O’Callaghan sent in a cross that the keeper struggled with and like only the best strikers around Christian pounced to finish with a real poachers goal. F/T 5-1

The man of the match performance today came from three areas with another cracking display from Christian up front, and in midfield Matthew Lamb having one of his best games in what was a very tough fought match and in defense Stephen Roe who made his first start at centre back giving a mature display in no nonsense defending, you had the impression that nothing would get by him today. It is with his great performance at the back that Stephen gets the nod. A player with a cultured left foot, who has not started in as many games that his talent deserves. Well done Stephen. Goalscoers Garan 2, Christian 2 and Matthew 1

Quarter Final of The Cup home to Avondale 17th April 2011
Midleton 7 Avondale 1

The first division champions took on the might of Premier League Avondale in the quarter final of the cup at Knockgriffin on Sunday afternoon. Playing a team up a division is always difficult but now we are also Premier Division and should show no fear from anyone. It was with that attitude that the Magpies took to the field and from the first whistle to the final they tore Avondale to pieces. Only four minutes in and Garan went on a surging run beating three on the way and unleashed an unstoppable shot past the goalies diving right hand. On fifteen minutes Christian Daly popped up with number two after the midfield fought for the ball and put him through. Just three minutes later Avondale had a corner which Midleton cleared and in classic counter attacking fashion Garan finished putting the ball into the net. At this time Midleton were on fire giving exhibition football. Another three minutes and Garan had his hat trick, twenty minutes gone and that made it four nil. On twenty five possibly the goal of the game came from a free that was awarded after Matthew Lamb was kicked in the face. The play was halted while he got attention then with the ball in the centre circle with Garan standing over it, quickly he played in an inch perfect ball down the right to China who then pushed it past the oncoming defender when he got to the byline he put in a sweet cross to where Matthew had ghosted in and he then volleyed it into the corner of the net. Dreamland. The best thirty minutes we played this season. H/T 5 0

In the second Midleton still pressed with China coming more into the game. Andrew looking very dangerous showing some great movement up front and Barry having his usual top class performance. With the defense totally on top Ross, Cogs, Paudraig and the lively Rian all in total control a true team performance. It was not long when number six came from the head of Andy after another quality cross from China. Avondale did get one back after they squeezed one past the impressive Corey in the Midleton goal. There was still time for scorer supreme Christian to nab our seventh and his second. F/T 7 1

How do you pick a man of the match from eleven men of the matches? Today one player played exactly as his coaches asked of him. His runs opened up for others to score and he even got one himself. That man is Andrew McMahon. Really well played Andy, I know of no other who has a bigger heart on the soccer pitch. Congrats Andy.

League away to Wilton 16th April 2011
Wilton 3 Midleton 6

Ten games in and ten victories:   CHAMPIONS
Firstly congratulations to all who have taken part in another great season. We have twenty boys on the panel and all have contributed to make it a season to remember.

Wilton away, did not look like it would be too much trouble. Wrong. They came at us like it was their cup final and we nearly paid the price. Our first half performance could have been better as Wilton seemed to win the all the 50 50’s and asked all the questions. The opening goal came from a ball over the top of the defense which Corey cleared, only for it to drop to a Wilton player who then lobbed a lovely ball over our keeper. Two minutes later a free kick 30 yards out saw Garan with a pin point strike to the top corner of the net, what a cracker. Midleton did come back into the game but again after twenty it was Wilton who made it two one. The lads did up it and just before the half China leveled the game with another great strike. H/T 2-2

Harsh words were said at the break and the team came out for the second definitely more focused. Two changes at the break saw Ross O’Connor take over at the back and Andy McMahon pushed up front to partner Christian. It was Andy who made an instant impact, China powered down the line and put in beauty of a cross for Andy to head home. There were some good performances out there now, Matthew Lamb winning the ball in midfield and working very well with Garan. Rian Hogan linking up with Barry O’Callaghan on the left and China terrorizing the Wilton left back. The goal that was too much for Wilton, came from the boot of China. It was started when the man with a point to prove “Ross O’Connor” won his challenge and put in a neat pass for China to blast pass the Wilton keeper. For the first time Midleton were in control and here they pressed on. Next up was Barry O’Callaghan to cleverly take on the defenders and slot home the fifth. The sixth gave China his second hat trick in a week. Wilton did put one more past Corey but the game for them was lost. F/T 3-6

The man of the match today came from one of our defenders. A team player, who did not put a foot wrong all through the match. It was not a spectacular performance but what he did was all for the team. The simple things are sometimes the hardest and Rian Hogan showed today that if the ball just had to be won he was the man for the job and when the ball was won he would lay on a nice simple pass to a team mate. A solid performance from a solid player. Nice game Rian, keep it up.

League away to Riverstown 10th April 2011
Riverstown 0 Midleton 10

Riverstown were unfortunate to face rampant Midleton for their last game of the season. Ten goals, four in the first and six in the second was tough medicine to take for our East Cork rivals. But in truth it could have been an even heavier defeat if all our chances had been taken. The first goal was on three minutes when Ryan O’Regan had a tap in after China powered his way past the Town defender. The defender had no answer to China the whole game. Our second from the Captain was a powerful free kick that the keeper had little chance. Further goals from Christian and China in the last few minutes of the half in reality had the game in the bag. H/T 0 4

No changes at the half were made so Riverstown still had to deal with the same hungry Magpies. The goals began to flow with Christian adding a second and with a third coming from the penalty spot which he slotted home with great skill. Garan with one of his usual power drives and Barry chipped in with a poacher’s goal also. China put two more past the unfortunate Town keeper. Five different goal scorers on the day is a coach’s dream and put that with two hat tricks made this a day to remember. Due to the very warm weather the three subs all got a run with them all making great contributions in the victory. Although it has to be said that our two keepers did have a quiet afternoon but that was due to the excellent defenders in front of them. F/T 0 10

The man of the match today really belonged to the goal scorers, with Garan getting two but it was not only his goals but his all round midfield display, power running and ball distribution of the highest order. The two hat trick heroes and I mean heroes, Christian and China were superb. On another day Christian may have had five but through no fault he was kept to the three. His overall play with his work rate going past 100% on the day leading the line like a Lion. China on the right side of midfield was excellent; their poor left back will have nightmares about him. His pace and determination was a joy to watch. And the winner of today’s man of the match has to go to China. His display amongst the other brilliant displays was outstanding, if there is a faster more powerful right midfielder I have yet to see him. Superb China, well done.

Local Cup Home to Blarney A 6th April 2011
Midleton 5 Blarney A 0

A last sixteen encounter with a weekend Blarney A team was what the Doctor ordered for some very tired Midleton lads. After three minutes Barry O’Callaghan slotted home the first after some neat footwork from the midfielder. It was not too long after that Matthew Lamb put in an excellent corner that Christian buried into the net. At this stage Midleton were cruising. Blarney could not cope with the Midleton pressure and it took Ryan O’Regan to make it three nil with a nice finish. H/T 3-0

Five changes were made at the half and it was two of the subs that added the next two goals, Stephen Roe who finished a lovely volley which came from a glanced header from center forward Ross O’Connor which nestled into the top corner. This was followed by Timmy Abdullahs first goal of the season when through effort and determination he forced the ball into the Blarney net.

Some really good performances on the night came from Matthew Lamb who bossed the midfield and China who powered his way down the right wing to great effect. But the M of Match has to go to Matthew for the work and top quality passing. A lesson in uncomplicated hard working midfield play.  Well done Matt keep up the hard work.
Scorers: Barry O’Callaghan, Christian Daly, Ryan O’Regan, Stephen Roe and Timmy Abdullah

Friendly away to Mossley Hill 3rd April 2011
Mossley Hill 1 Midleton 1

After a twelve hour journey the lads had to face a tough game against a very strong team, which included Liverpool Academy players. But as usual the lads were up to the challenge and played a game that Mosley Hill at first could not deal with.  Midleton as is usual were first to the ball and won many of the 50/50’s. An incredible performance from some very tired boys. It was the Mags who took an early lead with Ryan O’Regan pulling one out of the top draw. He pulled out a long downfield ball, one touch control, swiveled and shot with pace passed the keeper. H/T 0-1
The second half meant we had to face playing uphill, so with the boat lag and tired legs it was thought that a fresh Mosley Hill team would take advantage. Again never underestimate Midleton, they took control of the game and had a couple of very good chances that nearly wrapped up the game. Mossley Hill with their Liverpool players would not lie down and they pressed hard and it looked likely that we would hold out only for a cross/shot to drift over Corey into the net 1-1. At this point now with five minutes left and some very tired Cork boys we were happy to hear the whistle and with the game ending in a fair draw. F/T 1-1
Team: Corey McEssey, Barry O’Callaghan, Ross O’Connor, Rian Hogan, Cathal Martin, Matthew Lamb, Christian Daly, Ciaran Newlands, Andrew McMahon, Sean O’Meara, China Igboanusi, Timmy Abdullah, Stephen Roe, Kevin Mulcahey, Paudie O’Brien, Eoin Mitchell, Ryan O’Regan and Jamie Clohessey.

Local Cup home to Macroom 20th March 2011
Midleton 4 Macroom 0

The round of the last Thirty Two saw an inform Macroom team at Knockgriffin looking to topple the First Division League leaders. However it was a round too far for the Division Five challengers.  Today Midleton carried on with the same determination that they showed in the second half against Fermoy. Macroom could not handle the pressure that Midleton placed on them from the off, and it took only till the third minute for Garan to make one of his usual surging runs to confidently drive the ball past the outstretched arms of the Macroom keeper. The lads kept up with the pressure and were rewarded with a second goal soon after. The move began on the right with a combination of sweet play ending with Sean O’Meara putting in a devastating cross to Christian Daly who finished with some quality. A cracking goal and for the swift movement from Sean it for me was one of the goals of the season. Although our forward play was impressive the defenders did a great job not giving Macroom a chance. Notably at the back Cathal Martin and Rian Hogan were the pick of the bunch. Our attacking play began with some fierce defending, and the Strikers should thank their defence for their contribution. A third goal came from the dominating Sean O’Meara, if ever a player deserved a goal it was Sean. His all round play culminating with crosses, shots and hard tackling was a joy to watch. H/T 3-0

The second half was one of domination again with Midleton playing some nice football. There were a number of top performances on the day with Christian working hard the whole game along with Ross O’Connor and Ryan Hogan supporting ably. And it was Ross who popped up with his first goal of the season with a speculative shot that squeezed past the hapless Macroom keeper. As I always say you won’t win the lottery if you don’t buy a ticket and by Ross taking a shot he was rewarded.
F/T 4-0

The Man of the Match was a close one again between Sean, Cathal and Rian. Rian grabbed his chance with his starting role with a great performance at the back along with Cathal who won and played the ball with intelligence. But to a man all who were watching were in no doubt about the MoM. Sean, with a display that any player would be proud of he was outstanding. He was given a starting role as strike partner to Christian and from the off he punished the Macroom back line putting in crosses, shots and tackling of the highest order. Sean we look forward to more of the same. Well done Sean.
Scorers Garan Manley, Christian Daly, Sean O’Meara and Ross O’Connor

League home to Fermoy 13th March 2011
Midleton 2 Fermoy 0 Scorer Garan Manley 2
The first run out since the loss to Cherry Orchid was a tricky game against a powerful Fermoy team who always give us a tough match.
Today was no different with the away team making it difficult for our lads to get the break through. Midleton took control of the first ten minutes without getting the goal that their possession deserved. However the run of play changed with Fermoy pushing strongly for the opening goal and only some great defending from Kevin Mulcahy and top class keeping from Corey kept Midleton in the game. With five minutes left in the first half it looked likely that Fermoy would take the lead from a breakaway only for Corey to race off his line and clear the ball, desperate defending was required and Paudraig and Cathal needed to be on tip top form to keep the visitors at bay. H/T 0-0

The second half started with the introduction of two subs in the form of Stephen Roe and Rian Hogan. The Midleton team needed to up their level of performance, as at half time they were not at their best and looked likely to drop their first league point of the season.  It seemed that the half time talk and changes helped, the lads defiantly upping their game a notch or two. Garan was much hungrier in the second half along with his midfield trio of Matthew, Stephen and Barry pushing Fermoy like they did not in the first. There was one move of great teamwork, started from Stephen on the left who knocked it on to Garan who picked out Matthew who thread a lovely through ball to Christian Daly who usually finishes these chances only to see his shot rebound off the post into safety for Fermoy. Things had turned, and Midleton pressed forward and it seemed like it was only a matter of time for the breakthrough. As it happened it came from a cracking corner from Matthew which found its way to the hungry man in the six yard box, Garan. A striker’s goal of the top draw, off his knee… Only the hungry get these types of goals. To the credit of the team they did not sit back on the one goal and they pushed for a second. Fermoy were still not finished and with a one goal lead Midleton still had work to do in defense, again the defense had to stand strong and firm to keep Fermoy quiet. With Middleton’s seventh corner of the game Matthew put it into the six yard box, on to it leapt Garan whose shot was saved by the keeper who when he spilled it, it was Garan again who was first to the ball to bury it into the net. A lesson to all strikers who want to score goals was served up by Garan today, neither spectacular but both taken with determination.  F/T 2-0

The man of the match today could easily have been Garan, for his excellent second half display, or Matthew, who worked tirelessly and put in some class corners or even Barry who kept pushing and pushing. But today for a full sixty minutes of concentration and dominating at the back Kevin Mull deserves the MoM accolade. He kept up his outstanding display against De La Salle and followed up with another fine defensive display. Kev your hard work in training is paying dividends keep it up.

National Cup Last 32 Away to Cherry-Orchard on 27th February
Cherry-Orchard 6 Midleton 1

Midleton U-12 and their loyal supporters travelled to Dublin early Saturday morning to play probably 1 of the best sides in the Country.
The game started as expected with Cherry-Orchard pressing from the off with some very neat play and a couple of fine shots stopped by the very impressive stand-in keeper Kieran form the U-11s,Midleton created a couple of early chances but finding it hard to cope with the strenght all over the pitch,Cherry-Orchard also created some neat attacking play but again to be denied by some further great saves,on 20 mins Cherry-Orchard took the lead with a neat through ball finished off by their very impressive striker,Midleton defended well putting their bodies on the line with Ross O Connor very impessive at left back challenging for every-ball not giving their centre forward any space,China was his usual powerhouse,Paudraig strong in the air and Cathal doing all he could to cope with the power they had,Garran Mathew Barry and Stephen were working their socks off...finding it very hard dealing with the size and strenght of Cherry-Orchard midfield ,as Christian and Ryan up front had but a handful of chances ,1 of which was very close to draw the game level on 25 mins but Ryan O Regan to be denied by a great save,Cherry-Orchard extended their lead on 27 mins again with some very neat play finished off with a great volley on the edge of the box.
HT,Cherry-Orchard 2 Midleton 0
Second half began as the first with Midleton absorbing all the pressure and backs to the wall as Cherry-Orchard came looking to close the game out.. in which they did on 40 mins and extend their lead to 3. Credit to Midleton from 1-11 they kept battling and never gave up.(Great Spirit).. and after Garran hitting the Crossbar with a superb free kick it gave them hope of a goal..and were rewarded on 47 mins when Christian pounced to finish off neatly ..and picked... the ball out of the back of the net and ran back to the halfway line..was there a shock in sight.? Not to be...... again Cherry-Orchard pushed hard and got their reward on 52 mins and were out of sight.4-1...Kevin Mulcahy.Rian Hogan Sean O Meara and Timmy came off the bench and tried to contribute to the scoreline but Midleton were outclassed...Cathal..Ross..China. and Kevin..defended with all their strenght,Garran made his usual bursts and efforts on goal but only to be denied by the wood-work.and some great defence. ..Mathew who worked hard to supply some neat passes to the forward line..,Stephen and Barry worked hard on the wings, but on the day came up against a very good and organised Cherry-Orchard side and with a couple of minutes to go got a couple of soft goals to finish off the tie,but no complaints ..by far the better team on the day Won ,even though it was a heavy defeat it could of been a lot heavier but for some great Goalkeeping and some Brave defending.from all..to Pick Man of the match it must be from the line of defence with Ross O Connor with his strong tackling and commitment just edging out the very impressive Kieran in Goal,Congrats Ross..but over all Midleton gave a good  team performance but just were simply outclassed on the day,Keep up the good work lads the League and Local Cup are still there for the taking...and thanks to all who travelled  to lend their support..... and to mention the Hospitality/Food we received from Cherry-Orchard.before and after the game....ohhh.. hope all enjoyed  the mystery tour on the way home :-)

Local Cup away to Kanturk on 19th February
Kanturk 1 Midleton 3

Midleton took to the field for what looked like a tricky cup game away to an in form Kanturk team. All started brightly for our lads who pressed the home team from the beginning, there was some half chances but we did not convert them. As always when you have all the play you must take your opportunities. This we did not, and half way through the first half the home team took the lead. It came from a free kick two meters outside the box, Corey had it covered but the wet ball spilled from his grasp only to be seized upon from a grateful Kanturk striker. It was against the run of play, however the spirited Midleton team never give up easily. Barry O’Callaghan was dominating down the right flank, he beat his man and put in a cracking looping shot over the beaten keeper only for the crossbar to come to his rescue. Was it to be one of those days of chances not taken? It took another fine run from Barry followed by a cross that every centre forward dreams of. Stephen Roe today’s Number 9 took his chance superbly, slotting home past the grasping arms of the Kanturk keeper. Midleton kept up the pressure and were awarded a free for a push on Eoin Mitchell. Matthew put in a delightful cross and his midfield partner Garan who rose the highest connected with it into the back of the net. H/T 2-1

The second half began as with the first with Midleton dominating play. Garan was back to his best form who alongside the always tidy Matthew Lamb they never gave Kanturk the chance to settle on the ball. There were a number of good performances today, China powerful as centre back, Kevin not giving their left winger a sniff, Eoin Mitchell gave a mighty display on the left side of midfield, Padraig snapping at any Kanturk forward and Sean O’Meara performing well also. After five minutes second half play the management thought it time for a tactical change with Rian Hogan replacing Sean, Christian Daly coming on for his hardworking cousin Ryan O’Regan and most unlucky to be subbed after a fine display was Eoin Mitchell, replaced by Timmy Abdullah. Although we pressed on for a third Kanturk held firm until the very last kick of the match when Garan got our third and his second to sew up the match. F/T 3-1
As always with the performance of the lads it is difficult to pick the man of the match. The choice this week was between Eoin Mitchell, China Igboanusi and Barry O’Callaghan. Either one would be deserving but on the day China just shaded it for the solid work in defence. Hard work put in on the training pitch has paid off again. Congrats China. Scorers Stephen Roe 1, Garan Manley 2

National Cup away to De La Salle on 5th Feb
De La Salle 2 Midleton 3
The first Competitive game since early Dec, and what an important one it was National Cup away to De La Salle in very wet and windy conditions. Playing against a very strong wind the lads statrted quickly piling the pressure on the big De La Salle defence and were rewarded on 10 mins when super stiker Christian pounced on a spill form their keeper and planted in the back of the net. Captain Garan led midfield with Mathew, Barry  and Andrew all working hard to supply China and Christian with some great service. But De La Salle defence was holding out and after 20 min of pressure and against the run of play, De La Salle got their equaliser with a very neat finish form their very fast and impressive No.11, who again within 5 min put De La Salle into the lead from a long range shot that was spilled. No.11 came out of nowhere to catch Cory off guard and finish neatly. Heads were down as after dominating the game the lads were 2-1 down, Ross, Padraig, Cathal and Kevin defended well to keep the score at 2-1 at half time.
With a strong wind to our favour the second half started as the first and after some great link up play between Ross, Mathew and Barry who put a neat ball into Christian who had his fine effort saved, and kicked out to Garan who controlled well, passed to Mathew who had a pop but had his shot saved but once again super striker Christian again pops up to smash home from close range to level the game at 2-all on 40 mins. Midleton back line with Ross making some great clearances along with Paudraig standing strong. Cathals pace closing out the danger along with Kevin with his first full game was very impressive and solid at the back. Ryan O'Regan replaced Andrew on 45 mins. Ryan switched with China to link up with his super striker cousin Christian up front, and after being on the pitch less than 5 mins collected a neat through ball from Mathew with still a lot of work to do rounded the defender to slot home a cracker and put Midleton into a 3-2 lead. De La Salle pushed hard but now with China doing a brilliant job man marking their danger man No.11 not giving him an inch, it was all Midleton who pushed on hard for a 4th goal with some great runs from Barry, Garan, Mathew, Ryan and Christian but De La Salle keeper was standing tall to keep us at bay. Corry collected neatly to snuff out any danger late on while Ross, Cathal, Padraig and Kevin could see the victory in sight finished very strong to close out any chance of an equaliser. Garan and Mathew took complete control of midfield in the second half while a stunning performances in the second half from Garan, Mathew, Christian, Ross, Kevin and China.
Man of the Match goes to Mathew Lamb who stood tall to man mark a player twice his size and dominate. Well done to the whole team on a brilliant team performance once again. Keep it going, roll on Cherry-Orchard.
Just to Mention the hospitality we got after the match in De Le Salle was absolutely fabulous, spread of food for all.

League home to Innishvilla 9th January 2011
Midleton 1  Innishvilla 0

The first game of the New Year was in doubt from the start. The icy conditions were back and the Referee
was doubtful that the game would be on, however eventually he gave us the go-ahead. The previous game against Innishvilla was our toughest in the league to date only scraping a 3-1 victory, so we knew we would have a game on our hands. So it was, with Midleton under a lot of pressure from the off the defense from Captain for the day Cathal Martin, Paudraig O’Brien, Jamie Clohessy and Kevin Mulcahy all had to be on top of their game soaking up intense pressure. We still were able to push them with the midfield quartet of Andy McMahon, Barry O’Callaghan, Matthew Lamb and Stephen Roe all putting in a lot of effort.
After Twenty minutes we broke through with a class finish from our” Master Striker” Christian Daly, breaking into the area and rounding the keeper to slot home with a left foot shot into the bottom corner of the net. It has to be said that his effort was made the easier because of the work rate of Ryan O’Regan who ran his socks off for the entire game. H/T 1-0

The second half was as tough as the first with Innishvilla pressing for the equalizer, Corey Mackessy pulled of a
couple of remarkable saves to keep us in the game, Paudraig was outstanding in putting his body in the way of
any shot that Villa put in. The three subs came on to help shore up the game, China, Timmy and Rian all helped to keep the visitors scoreless without the goal that they probably deserved.  It is with this in mind that the Man of the Match will go to a defender, with his brave display this goes to Paudraig. Time and again his bravery kept us in the game. Excellent job Paudraig.

National Cup home to Rockmount 28 November 2010
Midleton 1 Rockmount 1 Won 5-4 on penaltys

Without doubt the hardest draw we could have had, Rockmount top of the Premiere League. The game began as expected, the league leaders asking Midleton some questions. The reply that the Magpies had was that they were well up for the challenge. The first half was full of cut and thrust from both teams, the early part of the game narrowly favoring the visitors. But it was not all one way traffic at all. Rockmount, with some pressure took the lead on 20 minutes from a corner that should have been cleared by the Magpie defense but it was cleverly finished. From the kick off Midleton pressed but came up against a defense that seemed to have no weakness. Midleton took over the game from here and with the midfield being bossed by Matthew Lamb and the wings dominated by Barry O’Callaghan and Andy Mc Mahon. The home team pressed but up against 9 squad players from the Cork Team it was never going to be easy. H/T 0-1

The second half was one of domination from Midleton. The pressure was unrelenting with chances nearly taken by Ryan O’Regan and Rian Hogan. On the day the defense was outstanding with Paudrig, Cathal, Ross and a very impressive China ALL performing very well.  The central partnership of Cathal and Paudrig kept Rockmount at bay but it has to be said that Ross with his second half performance was his best in the black and white stripes to date. But still 1-0 down and time running out it took Christian Daly finishing off a fine team move to take the game into extra time.

Extra time again was dominated by the Magpies but with no rub of the green the game went to penalties. As with all penalties it was a lottery. It was punch for punch and the difference was three outstanding saves from Corey to seal the victory. A victory that was well deserved and congratulated by all from Rockmount.

The man of the match was….. Impossible, ALL the team played as a TEAM. It would be seriously unfair to nominate just one player.  Lads the Soccer World is your Oyster.  A performance to be proud of.  Keep your standards high and we will achieve who knows!!!

2nd round of National Cup away to Corinthians A
Corinthians A 1 Midleton 6
In appalling weather conditions with freezing wind and rain Midleton started strong piling on the pressure and pinned Corinthians defence back. After 2 corners Midleton were rewarded with their first goal after 5 mins when the inform Ryan O'Regan pounced after Corinthians Keeper spilled a shot. On 10 mins Barry O Callaghan finished off a sweet move from the Midfield where Garran, Mathew, Andrew and Barry were stamping their authority and controlling the game.
On 18 min Christian Daly then hit the net with a great goal followed by a forth by Andrew Mc Mahon who had another solid performance on the wing. Keeping Corinthians at bay were the inform back line Jamie, Cathal, Padraig, Ross and Rian Hogan who had a great game after replacing Ross after 15 mins when he picked up an injury. Corry did make a couple of very good saves when Corinthians did get the ball moving and were rewarded with a goal just before half time. But their hope was soon dashed when Capt Garran Manley hit the net to lead half time 5-1.

The second half saw the introduction of the bench with China putting in another good performance along with Sean, Eoin, Timmy working tireless in the unforgiving wind and rain. The second half Midleton piled on the pressure and after some great work on the wings from Barry and Andrew, Christian got his second goal and finished off his Hat-Trick with a great break right through the defence from the half way and finished off neatly another great performance from Christian on celebrating his selection onto Cork School Boys with Capt Garran Manley.
Well deserved lads keep up the good work and to the rest of the team. Another great team performance. This was difficult in selecting man of the Match as there were 3/4 in the running Christian, Garran and Cathal who led by example at the back. But Barry O Callaghan with his great runs up and down the wing causing Corinthians defence fierce trouble gets the nod. Well done Barry and the whole squad who as a unit have won Sports Star Of The Month for their overall performance so far, this year 100% in all Competition's. Keep up the hard work lads its paying off, roll on round 3 of the National Cup.

League home to Ringmahon Rangers 25 October 2010
Midleton 9 Ringmahon Rangers 1

Kevin Mulcahey, Ross O'Connor and Padrag O'Brien in action against Ringmahon RangersThe halfway point in the league saw Ringmahon Rangers at Knockgriffin.  In a game that was vital for promotion for both sides it started out with both teams challenging for every ball. With Midleton piling on all the pressure but the defense of the visitors could not be broken. And it took until the 14th minute for the home side to get the breakthrough that they deserved.  It was Ryan O’Regan who took the first and second goals with some neat finishing; he was playing as if he had a point to prove to the coaches after he was dropped for the last game.  He worked tirelessly up front with Christian forming a formidable partnership. Goal number three came from back in form Barry O’Callaghan. The fourth goal in an eight minute dominating spell saw a hat trick for Ryan. Goals five and six came from Christian Daly who once again put on a great show. H/T 6-0

The second half saw five changes with Stephen, Kevin, China, Eoin and Rian coming on. They all played a big part, even getting in amongst the goals. With Midleton running rampant the scoring continued with China who although under a lot of pressure scored a well deserved goal. Rian CHIPPED in an interesting shot/cross from an awkward angle, was it a shot or a cross only he knows. The ninth and final goal came from Ryan O’Regan again, his fourth of the day. The nine goals were scored by five different players who could not have done it without tremendous team play. The midfielders Garan, Barry, Andy and Matthew all worked extremely hard in creating chances for the forwards. And the backline of Padraig, Ross, Cathal, Jamie and our keeper Corey only let in one goal. A lot of what we created started from the backs winning challengers and setting up the moves. Well done to all the defenders. It has to be mentioned that although not called upon much, Corey pulled off a remarkable and brave save toward the end of the game.

The man of the match today went to the one with something to prove, Ryan O’Regan. He responded from some criticism from his coaches by improvement in training and doing it on the pitch. Keep up with the hard work in training and you will see the benefit on the pitch. Nice work Ryan.
Scorers Ryan O’Regan 4, Christian 2, China 1, Barry 1, Rian Hogan 1

National Cup away to Fermoy 17th October 2010
Fermoy 2 Midleton 4

Last season we had a great run in this competition and we were hoping for another good run this term. Fermoy, who we beat 7-2 only a few weeks ago were the opposition but we knew they would be tougher today. The prize today was an away round two match against the Corinthians A team. In a bruising but fair game it took a lot of effort from the Magpies to get past Fermoy. With some early pressure Midleton took an early lead after a pinpoint corner from Big Jamie Clohessy, he placed it squarely on to Garan’s head who powerfully took his chance. The dream start only lasted three minutes when a speculative effort from Fermoy brought the equaliser.  Midleton carried on with us having the best of the play forcing many corners that Jamie would zing in. It was from a corner that we scored number two, Christian who worked tirelessly all day cleverly ran over to take the defence by surprise and took it short, he then neatly turned and buried it into the net. H/T 1-2

The second half was a different proposition with Fermoy scoring early on and then putting us under a lot of pressure for long periods of time. The midfield pair of Garan and Matthew put in a lot of work and with Barry and Andy kept busy with defensive duties it was backs against the wall time. The defence all had a big part to play with Paudie alongside the ever cool Cathal, Ross and Jamie all working very hard. The game looked to be heading to extra time when we won a corner when Paudie rose above all only to see his header crash off bar, the ball bounced around only for Garan with his back to goal  to spectacularly bicycle kick it into the net. With only five minutes we thought that was it but we had one more goal with Garan getting his hat-trick, a top corner rocket from a full 30 yards. F/T 2-4

The man of the match was again difficult with three players to choose from, Christian who led the line with bravery and strength. Matthew who shone in midfield with his usual neat play and energetic form who had one of his best games for us and Garan with a hat-trick anyone would be proud of. Garan just edges out them with his performance and goal winning display. Keep up the good work Garan.
Scorers:  Garan 3, Christian 1

League home to Riverstown  10 October 2010
Midleton 8 Riverstown 0

Three times last season, we had good, hard, and very close games against Riverstown so the boys were ready to battle. Although Riverstown were bottom of the league we gave them every respect. Midleton knew any slip up would be costly.

The game began brightly enough with Midleton asking all the questions, Riverstown were dogged in defence and did not shy away from the tackling, Christian and Garan were the victims of some crude challengers, but bravely they carried on. In fact it was not till the twentieth minute that one of the tackles brought a penalty.  Old reliable Christian, duly slotted home his first of the day. Shortly afterwards he netted his second and tastiest of the day. He cleverly spun his marker and beat the keeper with great skill. Today, Ryan O’Regan was his strike partner and although a goal was not his he still worked tirelessly up top. The midfield four of Barry, Matthew, Garan and Andrew totally dominated.H/T 2-0

The second half was much the same as the first, in getting off slowly. But when Midleton got going there was no stopping them. Christian got his third, and then we introduced three subs. Kevin, Rian and Paudie. All three played extremely well. Rian especially, whose instructions were to get a goal, only he could not do that.  He got three! That boy never listens. Stephen who also came on as sub banged in one. Sean O’Meara came on for Barry and also impressed, and for good measure Riverstown put one in the net for us after an excellent cross from Garan.

The man of the match this week was very difficult, two hat tricks, an amazing display by Andrew who terrorised them all day, and defensive performances from Corey, Cathal, Ross, China and Jamie. So after scoring eight, it has to go to a defender! The pick of the bunch went to Cathal and China. However Cathal has to get it on a near perfect display at center back. He not only won every tackle but played his passes with great intelligence. Keep up the good work Coggs.

League Home to Wilton 3rd October 2010
Midleton 5 Wilton 0

Midleton's first home game of the season ended up with a convincing and very well deserved victory for the Magpies. The visitors were Wilton who was in the Premership last season, so they could not be taken for granted.  The game itself took a little time to get going but in the 4th minute we saw Christian Daly bearing down on the Wilton goal only to chopped down with a two footed challenge by the keeper, a penalty surely, but the referee did not see it that way.  The medical bag was out and Christian bravely fought on.  Justice was done 15 minutes later when Christian cleverly finished off by sliding the ball past the Wilton keeper.  This was the breakthrough that Midleton needed, and the second followed four minutes later. A free kick was awarded 25 yards out which Garan hammered home. The next came from Barry O’Callaghan, Matthew Lamb put in a sweet chipped pass which fell nicely for Barry to control and then cleverly chip it past the keeper. H/T 3-0

The second started like the first with Midleton totally dominating the proceedings with the defence holding firm, special mention has to go to Kevin Mulcahy who played out of his skin, he linked up really well with Andy McMahon who worked tirelessly down the right flank. It was a cracking performance from all the team and this was displayed by Sean O’Meara who when he came on he fought tiger like to win any loose ball, and it was he who won the ball on the edge of his own box and laid on a pass for Christian to run on to, Christian skinned the first defender, he skinned the second and pressed on looking to score only to be cruelly upended in the box, this time a pen was the result. Christian took the kick and calmly placed it past the keeper.  The final goal came from another thunderous free kick again from Garan. 25 yards out this time Wilton had no wall but packed the box, the result was the same. F/T 5-0.

The man of the  match could of come from any where. A clean sheet is a coaches dream and between them our defence might have had the man of the match, Ross, Paudie, Rian, Cathal, Sean and Kevin all in the running but it came down to two. Garan and Garan. His performance today at times looked like there was more than one of him on the pitch. A big game from our big man. Nice game Captain.
Scorers Christian Daly 2, Garan Manley 2, Barry O’Callaghan 1

League away to Innishvilla 26th September 2010
Innishvilla 1 Midleton 3

Away to Innishvilla the lads got off to a quiet start with both defenses on top, notably Ross and Rian, who were on top of their game. There was a lot of pressure from China and Christian but they never looked to trouble their keeper until the 20th minute when there was a bit of controversy. China raced forward and smashed a 18 yard pile driver into the roof of the net, however the net did not stop the ball and the referee did not seem to want to give the goal, only to blow the whistle and award it after some reflection. The first half finished with Midleton pushing on with some mighty work from Jamie Clohessey. H/T 0-1

The second half started with the introduction of Stephen Roe and Kevin Mulcahey to firm up the midfield and defense, with both players recently showing good form. As with the first half Midleton pushed on looking to score the next goal, and it came after 10 minutes when Jamie crossed in a peach of a corner for Garan to rise high and power a downward header that the keeper had no chance of saving. Things got better again two minutes later with a fine individual goal from Ryan O’Regan, after the ball was taken away from him on the edge of the box he persevered and won it back and finished with style. To shore up the game on came Sean and Paudie, Sean kept the pressure on them in attack and Paudie stepped in to keep order at the back. Innishvilla did get one back from a breakaway but it was too little too late for them. F/T 1-3

As for the man of the match two players stood out from the rest and they were Garan and Jamie. Garan really ripped the opposition to shreds; his forward play was a joy to watch. On the day though Jamie came away with the honors, carrying an injury he played through the pain barrier and his all round play was his best for Midleton by far to date. Congrats Jamie.

League away to Blarney 12th September 2010
Blarney 1 Midleton 8
Up for the challenge of Blarney United, who were in the Premiership last year, Midleton were ready to battle.  The game started in bright sunshine on a perfect pitch both teams looking to maintain a 100% record. The game began with Midleton racing into a one minute lead with Christian Daly powerfully heading in from an excellent cross from Matthew Lamb.  A great start from the lads but better was to come with the boys netting another a minute later from the tricky and skilful Barry O’Callaghan. 2-0 after two minutes. After this their tails were up and they continued to dominate possession.  But it has to be said that at 2-0 the game was still up for grabs and our Goalkeeper Corey Mackessey kept us in the game.  He pulled off a couple of saves that any keeper would be proud of. The best performance he has in a Midleton shirt by far.  The first half was not over yet when Ryan O’Regan struck for his first goal of the season, so far his performances have been very impressive. H/T  3-0

Second half started in the same vein as the first with Midleton pressing from the off. Midleton  scored again when Garan Manley crashed in a scorcher from 25 yards, just when we thought we had seen the goal of the game the next goal caught   our breath, a fabulous volley from the edge of the box by Christian brought applause from all.

Substitutions made by the management can go un-noticed, however Rob and Jon put their heads together and changed things about a bit, they made a few changes bringing on Stephen Roe who bagged a brace, his first goals of the season.

All  in all the man of the match has to go to our Goalie who kept us in the game at the most of important times.  Well done Corey.

Goal scorers Christian Daly 2, Stephen Roe 2, Barry O’Callaghan, Ryan O’Regan, Garan Manley, Own Goal.

League away to Fermoy 29th August 2010
Midleton U12’s got off to a flyer on the opening day of the season, the team had a convincing score line of 7 – 2 away to promoted Fermoy.
The game started off very well for the away side with some very neat attacking play from the new strike partnership of Christian Daly and China Igboanusi, as it was the first time they played together, they look to be a formidable partnership for the up-coming season.  However, the home team took a shock lead after ten minutes with a quality goal that Corey Mackessy could do little about. Midleton were not fazed, and they pressed for an equalizer which came about from a 25 yard screamer from Matthew Lamb, the little midfielder had an excellent game all round.  From there on Midleton pressed on and took the game by the scruff of the neck, with goals from China (2) and Christian (3), and also a contender for goal of the season from the ever impressive Barry O’Callaghan.
There were some excellent performances all over the pitch, with Ryan O’Regan coming close with a shot just over the bar and Captain Garan Manly having his usual top class game.
It has to be said that the defence did us proud with Cathal Martin, Ross O’Connor, Paudie O’Brien and Jamie Clohessy all holding Fermoy at bay. It is not just about the starting 11 at Midleton, as we have strength in depth. On the day our very strong bench who all contributed consisted of Eoin Mitchell, Stephen Roe, Andy McMahon, Sean O'Meara and Rian Hogan.
It was a great start to the new campaign and we hope to give many more good displays through the season.
We would like to welcome a new addition to the coaching panel, Jon Lamb, on the day he helped enormously with some very wise words that the lads definitely found very helpful. He has a deep knowledge of the game, having formerly been a star performer for Squibb in the Liverpool and Cheshire League.

Under 12A 2010/11 Division 5

League at home to Leeds on Sun 29 May 2011
Midleton A 6  Leeds 1
Midleton ‘A’ Score Six to Finish League on a High.
Midleton ‘A’ played their last game of the season against Leeds and with a Cameron Smyth hat-trick they controlled the game from start to finish. With some excellent work in Midfield from Mike Kelly and especially Conor Meade the chances came thick and fast and the result was never in doubt. After several chances went wide, on the 20 minute mark Cameron Smyth collected the ball just outside the 18 yard box and dribbled past three players before slotting the ball into the far corner from a tight angle on the right side of the six yard box. This took the pressure off and within 5 minutes Midleton ‘A’ were two up when a shot from the impressive Conor Meade was deflected to Cian Walsh on the six yard line and he finished well into the corner. On the 30 minute mark Cameron Smyth grabbed his second goal after good work from Kieran Veillard down the right side, his cross was controlled by Smyth who blasted it into the top corner.

At half time, David Jalil came on for Dylan Wright at left back and Barry Kenneally replaced Veillard who had worked tirelessly on the right. It was Kenneally who scored the fourth for Midleton a few minutes into the second half after another great through ball from Meade. Kenneally finished well into the bottom corner.
At this point the Midleton ‘A’ defenders had seen little of the ball and started to push forward. This left some gaps at the back and eventually Leeds started to make a few chances. After some diligent work on the right side they were awarded a free kick which was floated high into the box. The ball was flicked on and a quick shot was saved well by Conor Evans in the Midleton ’A’ goal, only for the rebound to be scored. Midleton ‘A’ made their final change, with Alan Swarbrick coming on for Cian Walsh and the fresh legs jolted Midleton ‘A’ into action. On the 50 minute mark Smyth scored again for a fine hat-trick. After good work from Meade to slide the ball through the defence, Smyth ran onto it and placed it coolly past the keeper. With only minutes left Midleton ‘A’ were enjoying the game and playing some excellent passing football, creating chances at will. After some hard work by Kelly on the left, Midleton ‘A’ won a corner and the ball was floated in and was met by centre half, Liam Franklin, who thumped it into the top of the net to seal a great win.

This win secured fourth place in the league for the Midleton ‘A’ team and was a great finish to a very rewarding season for a superb bunch of lads. Report by Colm Smyth.

Friendly in Halewood, Liverpool – 3pm Sat 2nd April 2011
Mossley Hill A 2   Midleton A  2
Midleton ‘A’ Fight Back for Deserved Draw

As part of the 2011 UK trip for the U12 boys a friendly match with Mossley Hill of Liverpool was arranged. The Midleton U12 ‘A’ team played their ‘A’ team counter parts from Mossley Hill and after a 12 hour coach trip over night, the Midleton ‘A’ boys played superbly to earn a draw.

The game was played on a  hot and sunny afternoon which led to a great game of soccer. After a cautious start both teams started to push forward searching for a break and it was the Mossley Hill ‘A’ team that got the break after 9 minutes when a speculative shot looped over Connor Evans in goal. There was little he could do and there was an element of luck to the goal.

The ‘A’ team were determined get something from the game and they pushed hard throughout the first half for the break. However, at half time the score was still the same and Midleton ‘A’ had a lot of work to do. The second started with Midleton ‘A’ dominating possession and numerous attacks put Mossley on the back foot. Cameron Smyth pushed up to play alongside Barry Kenneally  and after 10 mins a long ball from Liam Franklin found Smyth who controlled the ball well before beating one defender and slotting the ball into the bottom right corner for an excellent equaliser.

Mossley Hill were not to be beaten and came back into the game with several attacks. Eventually a long range shot caught the Midleton ‘A’ keeper off guard and squeezed into the net, giving Mossley Hill a 2-1 lead with 15 min left. Midleton ‘A’ made several changes and the addition of Alan Swarbrick, David Rohan, Zack McElhinney, Tyrone Stack and Cian Walsh added some fresh legs to the game.

The new lads pushed hard for the equaliser and several good attacks resulted in a free kick on the right side of the box about 20 yards out. Liam Franklin stepped up and hit a great shot that squeezed through the keepers legs and the game was level.

Both sides pushed hard for a winner in the last 10 minutes but the game ended a draw and overall it was the right result for both teams. The U12 ‘A’ team should be very proud of the hard work and commitment they made after such a long trip and they will have shown the Liverpool boys that there is plenty of talent in Midleton.
Report Colm Smyth.

Midleton ‘A’ Deliver Excellent Win Against Grenagh

A superb performance from Kevin Daly with two goals was the difference in this match against Grenagh.
On a wet St Patrick’s Day morning Midleton ‘A’ continued their strong run of form with a battling display at Knockgriffin. They were up against a strong Grenagh team that liked to pump long balls over the defence and use their pace up front to make the breakthroughs.

However, it was the better play by Midleton ‘A’ that created the most chances and especially down the left wing by Kevin Daly. With only 13 minutes gone, Daly picked the ball up on the left edge of the box and stepped past two defenders before picking his spot low into the right corner. Midleton ‘A’ pushed on after this and dominated possession while in defence Liam Franklin and Cillian Brouder easily dealt with the high balls. Conor Meade and Cameron Smyth marshalled the midfield and Smyth in particular was ensuring the front players had plenty of ball to attack with.On 25 minutes the continued pressure led to another corner and when the ball came loose it was Kevin Daly once again who picked it up on the left, rounded the defender and slotted home from 10 yards.

On the restart Midleton ‘A’ were caught with a quick ball down the left and a strong run from the Grenagh player led to a shot from 12 yards that was saved by Conor White, only to see the rebound tapped in from close range. Grenagh continued to push forward and were awarded a penalty after a disputed hand ball, but the spot kick went wide and with it so did Grenagh’s spirit. Midleton ‘A’ got back on top and seen off the rest of the game with some strong defending by the back four and hard work by the midfield. Report by Colm Smyth. League away to Corkbeg on Saturday 5th March
Corkbeg 0 Midleton A 0

Midleton ‘A’ dominate to take great point at Corkbeg
Midleton ‘A’ played some excellent football as they controlled much of the possession in this tightly fought game. With Corkbeg sitting third in the league it was expected they would be too strong for Midleton ‘A’ but with excellent performances in Midfield from Cameron Smyth and Conor Meade, Midleton ‘A’ dominated for long periods and only the final ball stopped them from winning away from home.

Throughout the first half Conor Meade patrolled the midfield in front of his back four and picked off the loose balls from Corkbeg. Good link up play with Cameron Smyth allowed Midleton ‘A’ to quickly turn defence into attack and great support on the wings from Kieran Viellard and Kevin Daly ensured the Midleton ‘A’ front two of Barry Kenneally and Patrick Horgan had their chances. Only some fine goalkeeping from Corkbeg stopped Midleton ‘A’ from going in at half-time in the lead.

The second half saw changes from Midleton ‘A’ as the hard work was taking its toll. Both Conor Evans and Cian Walsh came into Midfield and continued to dominate Corkbeg. With a strong defensive line up of Liam Franklin, Cillian Brouder, Eollann Shanahan and the superb Dylan Wright, Corkbeg were reduced to long balls over the top for any success and these were easily cleared by the dependable Conor Wright in the Midleton ‘A’ goal.

Midleton ‘A’ continued to push up front and the entrance of Alan Swarbrick on the right and Dylan Hallinhan on the left added fresh legs to the attack and again it took good defending from Corkbeg to stop Barry Kenneally from scoring late on.
Overall, Midleton ‘A’ showed great improvement and discipline in a formation of 4-1-3-2 that Corkbeg never got to grips with and it is a credit to every player who worked hard all over the pitch to support each other.

With the league entering its final stages Midleton ‘A’ has laid a good platform to move upwards in the league. Report by Colm Smyth.

League home to Greenwood A on Sun 12th December
Midleton A 6   Greenwood A 0

Midleton ‘A’ hit six as they dominate Greenwood ‘A’
Midleton ‘A’ took hold of this game from the very first minute and a strong midfield presence from Conor Evans, Kieran Viellard and Michael Kelly ensured the chances would come thick and fast.

Within two minutes Kevin Daly and Dylan Hallinan combined well on the left to set up Barry Kenneally for his first of the day. It wasn’t long before number two followed with Daly and Kenneally working well up front to put Michael Kelly in a scoring position 15 yards out and he finished well to the top corner with a strong left foot.

On 18 minutes number three followed. After a rare attack from Greenwood ‘A’, David Jalill made three strong tackles to win the ball and send a neat pass through to Kenneally who held off some strong tackles to run clear and put a clean strike past the keeper.

Kenneally was showing his value up front when on 22 minutes he took control of the ball and played a fine pass to Hallinan who still had a lot of work to do. He held off some strong tackles and after an initial save from the keeper he was first to the rebound and bundled it into the net.

The first half finished 4-0 and Midleton ‘A’ had shown the hard work in training was paying off. In the second half, Midleton ‘A’ brought on Cameron Smyth up front and Cian Walsh in Midfield and their dominance continued with the Midleton ‘A’ defence easily managing the Greenwood ‘A’ attacks. This included fine performances from Dylan Wright, Cillian Brouder, Eolann Shanahan and David Jalill, with Conor White in goals having a very quiet day.

Midleton ‘A’ continued to push forward and Daly on the left worked well with Cameron Smyth to create more chances. Eventually the pressure took its toll and Greenwood ‘A’ conceded a penalty. Kenneally stepped up to finish well into the bottom left for a well earned hat-trick. He later made way for Craig Ryan. We also seen Alan Swarbrick and Owen Cashman join the game and they all made strong contributions in midfield and up front.

The final goal came after 50 minutes when a strong run from Daly up the left wing and a neat 1-2 with Cameron Smyth led to a cross that put the defence in panic and Michael Kelly finished well from close range after a good follow up run from Midfield.

This was a much need win for Midleton ‘A’ and one which will set them up for the second half of the season. Report by Colm Smyth.

National Cup Midleton A v Temple United, Knockgriffin, Sun 17th Oct 12.15pm
Temple Utd to strong for Midleton ‘A’

The start of this game showed little between the teams even though Temple Utd are 3 divisions above Midleton ‘A’. In many areas Midleton ‘A’ showed the better passing game and after 20 minutes it was still 0-0 and chances were few for both teams.
However, that was all to change in dramatic fashion in the final ten minutes of the first half. With some lapses in defence and a couple of bad bounces of the ball, Temple Utd scored 4 goals in quick succession as Midleton ‘A’ were stunned into silence.

Changes in defence and fresh legs in the second half proved to be very effective for Midleton ‘A’ and they battled hard with great work on the left of midfield by Dylan Wright, who was the Midleton man of the match. Midleton ‘A’ created several chances and the Temple Utd team were defending in numbers. With only 10 minutes left Midleton ‘A’ got the reward their hard work deserved with substitute Craig Ryan working hard to break through the defence only to be badly fouled in the box. Another substitute, Cameron Smyth stepped up to take the penalty and fired it coolly into the top right hand corner.

Temple Utd fought back and scored their last goal after an excellent run and finish on the left side of the box giving the Midleton ‘A’ keeper no chance.
The game finished 5-1 and again Midleton ‘A’ gifted the opposition several easy goals. If this can be stopped then they will no doubt start to get the results their football performances deserve.

Midleton ‘A’ lose tight game to Corkbeg

Midleton ‘A’ lost this game in the last two minutes after a pulsating tussle between two well matched teams.
Without doubt Midleton ‘A’ where the better footballers and only succumbed to the long ball game favoured by Corkbeg after their legs got tired.

In the opening minutes there was nothing in the game until Corkbeg floated a high ball into the box and it beat everyone to fall into the net. Midleton ‘A’ did not lose spirit and worked hard to get back into the game. In the middle of the park Conor Meade and Patrick Horgan controlled the game and used the wings well to put pressure on Corkbeg. However, the final pass from Midleton ‘A’ was missing and the Corkbeg keeper had little to do in the first half.

At half time, Alan Swarbrick was brought on to slot into the right of midfield and with Barry Kenneally asked to work on the right of the front two, they linked up well and constantly put the Corkbeg defence in trouble. After a series of good moves they won a free kick on the right side about 30 yards out and just like the Corkbeg goal, a high ball from Patrick Horgan into the box beat the Keeper and Midleton ‘A’ were level. Midleton ‘A’ dominated from here but were susceptible to the long ball over the top and the high defence played by Midleton was at risk. Conor Evans again played well in goal and cleaned up a number of speculative long balls.  With the game nearing an end It seemed it would finish a draw until Corkbeg broke through in the last 2 minutes.

With a strong run up the right flank the Midleton ‘A’ defence were out paced and a shot from the right of the goal 10 yards out slipped passed the outstretched hand of Conor Evans and crept inside the far post for the winning goal. It was a blow to Midleton ‘A’ who were the better team on the day but Corkbeg deserved the congratulations for working hard right to the end.

Grenagh United 1 Midleton A 2 Sat 18 Sept 2010, 10.30am
Midleton ‘A’ take points against Grenagh Utd
Midleton ‘A’ went to Grenagh on a cold damp morning and took control of a fierce match against a strong Grenagh Utd team that had won easily in their opening fixture and were favourites for this game.

However, the Midleton ‘A’ players were determine to get off the mark and with Conor Meade playing a holding role in midfield and Patrick Horgan pushing forward they controlled possession in the opening minutes. Cameron Smyth and Barry Kenneally were linking up well at the front and were finding openings right from the start. After 10 minutes a great through ball from Meade was taken well by Kenneally and he held off two defenders and rounded the keeper to finish a very good move. This was a sign of things to come and Midleton ‘A’ dominated the first half with Kevin Daly doing good work on the left of midfield supported by Meade controlling things from deep.

After 23 minutes Midleton ‘A’ scored their second. Daly picked up the ball on the left and after fighting hard to keep it from going out of play, he beat the defender and crossed to the near post where Kenneally got a flick on and as it looped towards the net a Grenagh Utd defender tried to clear, but only managed to kick the ball into the roof of the net. It was a great run from Daly and Midleton ‘A’ deserved the goal. At this point, Grenagh pushed hard in the final minutes of the first half and Conor Evans in the Midleton ‘A’ goal made a couple of great saves to keep the 2-0 lead at half-time.

The second half was, as expected, a very tight game with Grenagh Utd looking for a way back. Again Evans in the Midleton ‘A’ goal showed good skill and bravery to make some fine saves and is a goal keeper for the future. Eventually, Grenagh Utd got the break-through they needed with only 10 minutes left and a strong run up the left led all the way to goal and a good strong finish gave the keeper no chance. However, Midleton ‘A’ continued to play well and Cameron Smyth had two strong runs at the Grenagh Utd defence and found himself one on one with the keeper. On another day he could have scored but some last ditch tackles did enough to put him off his shooting and the chances were gone.

Midleton ‘A’ held out for the final few minutes and deserved to put three points on the board and on this evidence they will be a match for any team in the division. Scorers for Midleton A: Barry Kenneally (2)

League V Macroom Sept 4th
Midleton ‘A’ Overrun by Strong Macroom

Connor Evans challenges for the ball supported by Eolann ShanahanIn the hot sun of a Saturday Afternoon Midleton ‘A’ took the field in the opening match of the season against a physically strong Macroom side that has been promoted twice in recent seasons.
Macroom started well and after 10 minutes they broke across field to the right and a good run by the number 7 beat the Midleton left back and a fine finish into the corner at the near post.
Midleton ‘A’ fought back but were outnumbered in midfield and struggled to get any rhythm into their game. After 23 minutes a low shot straight at the Midleton ‘A’ keeper squeezed through his legs and crawled over the line. It was unlucky and the Midleton heads were down after this goal.

Slowly, Midleton ‘A’ got back into the game and after 28 minutes persistent work by Cathal Gunning led to a penalty after he was pulled down and Patrick Horgan finished well into the top right corner from the spot. It looked like this would enable Midleton ‘A’ to go in at half time with hope of a comeback, but a late goal on the stroke of halftime, crushed their hopes. A strong run down the left wing from Macroom was struck well into the far corner, giving the keeper no chance.
Midleton ‘A’ made changes to personnel in the second half and got more control in midfield, but they still struggled to break through a strong Macroom defence. Eight minutes into the second half and Macroom scored their fourth to seal the points after a strong run down the right wing, the cross was met at the back post for an easy tap in.
Midleton ‘A’ fought hard but could not find a way through and the final goal for Macroom came with the last kick of the game when a speculative shot came of the post and was knocked into the net by the Midleton keeper. On another day the game could have been 3-2 instead of 5-1, but Macroom where worthy winners.

Midleton, captained by Danielle O'Donoghue welcomed Ballinhassig U12 to Knockgriffin on Sat 11th December and with hard work and determination staged a magnificant comeback to draw the game level. Under poor conditions Ballinhassig were on top from the start with Ballinhassigs Jane Harrington and Maebh O'Sullivan constantly pressuring the Midleton defence and within the first 5 minutes Maebh O'Sullivan scored for the visitors. Midleton continued to play well and Jane McGauran played a fantastic defensive game keeping the swift Jane Harrington at bay. Great performances from Kate Desmond and Courtney Histon up front saw Midleton try to equalise but great Goalkeeping from the Ballinhassig keeper denied Midleton their chances. Ballinhassig fought on and a great goal from Geraldine Collins saw Ballinhassig end the first half 2 nil up.

The second half saw Midleton regroup and both Sarah Brouder and Jane McGauran linked up and again kept Jane Harrington from Ballinhassig from pressing forward. Ciara Deady in goal had a fantastic game and put in some great saves from the strong Ballinhassig forwards. League away to Glounthaune on Saturday 27th November
Midleton 6  Glounthaune 0

Midleton U12 girls captained by Danielle O'Donoghue travelled to Glounthaune on Saturday 27th November for a local derby as part of the Cork School Girls League. The weather was bitterly cold and it took a good 10 minutes for players from both teams to warm up! A strong performance from Caitlin Ryan straight from kick off saw her score the first goal of the match. This goal settled the team  and Chloe Sigerson found the net after great link up play with Delapo Bello and Courtney Histon. The scoreline of 3 nil did not deter Glounthaune as Midletons back line of Sarah Brouder, Charley Moore, Danielle O'Donoghue and Chloe Horgan were very busy with Glounthaunes Elana Flemming and Fiona Quinn constantly pressing forward and credit to Ciara Deady in goal who pulled off some great saves.
Glounthaune started the second half very strong but Charley Moore played a great defensive game marking the tall Elana Flemming and a great pass from Charley Moore to Caitlin Ryan saw Caitlin run the length of the pitch to score her second goal. The Midleton midfielders then took control of the game and Chloe Sigerson scored her second goal. Glounthaune did not hold back and fantastic play by Fiona Quinn insured Glounthaune kept the pressure on, but again Midletons defensive back 4 controlled by Danielle O'Donoghue insured Midleton kept a clean sheet. The final minutes saw Caitlin Ryan score her deserved 3rd goal for her hat trick. well done to all the girls and to Caitlin Ryan and Charley Moore who put in player of the match performances.

Under 12 2009/10 Reports

Friday 5th June Midleton 5-1 Rockmount
An unfamiliar looking Midleton side went out against Rockmount, knowing their relegation had been sealed in Tuesday’s match. Cormac Beausang again went in goal, with Eric Taft at left back and Fergal Roche right back. Martin Aszyjczyk, Anthony Walsh, Aaron Butler and Cian McNerney played well in a new-look midfield, with Conor Fitzgerald and China Igboanusi up front. Rockmount got a couple of early runs at Cormac in the Midelton goal, but he dealt with them very confidently. With so many unfamiliar faces in the side, it was no wonder it took Midleton a while to settle, but settle they did with Aaron, in particular, having a storming game in the centre. Muiris Moloney scored from the halfway line with a clearance that bounced straight over the keeper’s head and into the back of the net. Midleton relaxed a little, and Conor Fitzgerald put them 2 up with 6 minutes to play in the first half. Rockmount pulled one back with 6 minutes gone in the second half, and Midelton looked edgy again. Rockmount piled on the pressure from corners and open play, but Midleton held out, until Conor went up to score his side’s third with 15 minutes to go. By now, Owen Coates and James Leahy were into the Midleton midfield, Aaron moving back to his usual left back berth and Martin coming off. Luke Finnerty went off injured to be replaced by Ross Cummins. Jack Enright made it 4-1 Midelton with 13 minutes left, and Conor Fitzgerald wrapped up his hat-trick with 6 minutes to go, injuring himself in the process. It was enough to grab him the Top Scorer trophy for the side for the second year running. The effort put in by this side was amazing, gathering 10 points in the last 3 games, scoring 13 goals with only 2 conceded.
Man of the Match: Fergal Roche

Thursday 3rd June Midleton 0-0 Greenwood
Midleton went into this must-win game having lost keeper Joseph Wyer to a sprained wrist 10 minutes before kick off. Cormac Beausang stepped in, and did a magnificent job, keeping a clean sheet. The Midleton boys looked nervous, though, and couldn’t get into any sort of stride. Greenwood, knowing the importance of not being beaten, put players behind the ball all game, forcing Midleton to shoot from distance. Seadnaidh Smyth went on a great run from the midfield and ended up sending a shot fizzing just wide of the upright with 5 minutes to go. The occasion seemed too much for the Midleton lads who just couldn’t get the important first score that would have surely opened the game up. This was only the second game all season that Midelton failed to score, but this result sends them down to Division 3.
Man of the match: Seadnaidh Smyth

Tuesday 1st June Crosshaven 1- 8 Midleton
Midleton went looking for the win they desperately needed in their chase for points. For the first 15 minutes they looked nervous, taking long range shots, rather than working the ball in close for goal scoring opportunities. This, despite Jack Enright giving them the lead with a well taken goal after only 3 minutes. Once they started to settle down though, they showed what a good footballing side they are. Alan Ware got the second, following in like all good wingers should, the Crosshaven keeper was in fine form, making one on one stop from China Igboanusi, Conor Fitz and others. Owen Coates and James Leahy bossed the midfield and ran riot in the space they got. Seadnaidh Smyth was again outstanding ably, assissted by Muiris Moloney and Ross Cummins. Aaron Butler had a superb game at left back, with most of the pressure focused on his side. Conor got in on the goals with 2 in 7 minutes before the break, and Midleton looked comfortable. China got his first just before the break to put Midleton 5 up. He then completed his hat-trick in the second half, while Crosshaven pulled one back. Conor Fitz capped a great performance with a superb long distance lob to finish the scoring with a minute to go. Crosshaven's keeper deserves special mention, despite the scoreline. Midleton hit the woodwork four times in all, but the Crosser keeper made great saves time after time to deny the Midelton side .
MoM : James Leahy Scorers: Conor Fitz 3, China 3, Jack Enright, Alan Ware
Subs: Eric Taft for Aaron Butler, Cormac Beausang for Seadnaidh Smyth, Martin Aszyjczyk for China and Fergal Roche for Jack Enright.

Tuesday 25th May Temple United 4 - 2 Midleton
Midleton went to the League leaders needing a result badly. Temple went into the lead with a somewhat lucky goal 30 seconds before the end of the first half. They added a second 30 seconds after the restart and it looked all over for Midleton. However, to their credit, the boys fought and fought, even after conceding a killer third. They pulled one back through the outstanding James Leahy with 7 minutes left, before Temple made it safe with a fourth on 58 minutes. Owen Coates scored another consolation in added time. Midleton had keeper Joseph Wyer to thank for keeping them in the game at times, making 3 or 4 terriffic saves. Seadnaidh Smyth made his long awaited comback, and was majestic with his clearances and bringing the ball out from defence.
Scorers: James Leahy, Owen Coates.

Saturday 22nd May - St Mary's 2 -1 Midelton
Midelton lost out by the smallest of margins in yet another tight game, this time away to St Mary's. 2-0 down in the second half, they wouldn't lie down, and China Igboanusi scored his first goal for the team with a scrappy goal. Cormac Beausang hit the crossbar direct from a corner, which summed up Midleton's luck in the league this year. Try as they might, they couldn't get the equalizer their play deserved.

Sunday 9th May - Rockmount 4-3 Midleton
Midleton got off to the worst possible start, going 3 goals down in the first 10 minutes. This was after starting very brightly, and having 2 clear chances including hitting the post in the first two minutes. The next 6 minutes was a horror show though as they conceded awful goals from a defensive point of view. They steadied themselves, though, and James Leahy followed up a fine Conor Fitzgerald run and shot which hit the post, to crack  home the rebound. James and his midfield partner Owen Coates stemmed the tide in midfield, with Cormac Beausang and Alan Ware probing on the wings. Aaron Butler came on for Fergal Roche at left back during half time as Midleton went in search of goals. Rockmount though, went up to score again to make it 4-1, and leave Midleton with a mountain to climb. Despite the scoreline, Muiris Moloney at Centre back, and Joseph Wyer in goal were outstanding. Conor Fitzgerald got Midleton's second with a fine strike with 18 minutes left on the clock. Despite all the pressure, Rockmount were holding out until Conor got his second with 3 minutes remaining, harrassing the defender into a mistake, then coolly lobbing the keeper. Try as they might though, they couldn't get the equalizer, and are left looking at a relegation scrap to finish the season.
Man of the match: Muiris Moloney

Friday 16th April - Avondale 3-1 Midleton
Midleton lost the toss and played the first half with the slope on the Beaumount pitch. Owen Coates scored a terrific free kick from 30 yards out, but a missed penalty, efforts against the woodwork and near misses always meant Midleton would find the second half tough going.
That was they way it turned out with Avondale scoring 3 in the second half, despite the best efforts of Coates, Cian McNerney, Conor Fitzgerald and Joseph Wyer. The Midleton side gave their all in the second half, but just couldn't break down a resolute Avondale defence.
Man of the Match: Owen Coates
Midleton: J Wyer, R Cummins, A Butler, S Smyth, L Finnerty, J Leahy, A Ware, C Beausang, C Fitzgerald, O Coates, J Enright Subs: M Moloney for S Smyth, C McNerney for J Enright, F Roche for A Ware.

Friendly - Churchvilla 1- 1 Midleton
Midleton tore into Churchvilla in the first half with the benefit of the slope, and should have run up a few goals, but for tremendous saves, the woodwork, and some bad luck in front of goal. Cian McNerney ran himself into the ground, but just couldn't score the goal his efforts deserved.
Muiris Moloney was immense at centre back, ably assisted by Ross Cummins, Eric Taft and Oisin Kelly. Anthony Walsh, and Alan Ware did great work down their wings, while Fergal Roche played a blinder in central midfield. Jack Enright scored the Midleton goal in the first half, working well with his strike partners up front, in Joseph Wyer and Shane Murphy. Churchvilla were awarded a penalty late on which was saved by the excellent Brian O'Farrell, but the referee ordered a re-take which was converted to leave the game drawn.
Man of the Match: Muiris Moloney.

Sunday 11th April Innishvilla v Midleton
Midleton looked like they would run away with the game going in at half time 1-3 up, though goals by Alan Ware (2) and Jack Enright, with Cian McNerney hitting the crossbar after a terriffic run through the centre. Indeed Jack Enright's second of the game, 10 minutes into the second half looked to have the game sewn up, but Innishvilla scored 3 goals in 6 frantic minutes to leave the game tied at 4-4. Try as they might, Midleton couldn't find a winner, despite piling on the pressure at the end.
Innishvilla 4 - 4 Midleton

Man of the Match: Aaron Butler
Team: J Wyer, R Cummins, A Butler, S Smyth, L Finnerty, A Ware, J Leahy, C Fitzgerald, C Beausang, J Enright, C McNerney. Subs: M Moloney, A Walsh, F Roche, E Taft.

14th Feb 2010 Midleton Vs Crosshaven
A beautiful sunny morning for soccer in Midleton. Crosshaven made a mockery of their low position in the league by giving Midleton a real fight in the first half and playing some neat football. Midleton were playing some incisive football themselves and got through for shots on goal on quite a few occasions through Alan Ware and Cormac Beausang from the midfield. The Crosshaven keeper was in inspired form, and with some wrong options being taken by the Midleton attack, goals were scarce.
However, Midleton took the lead through Conor Fitzgerald after 7 minutes, continuing his recent purple patch for the U12 development squad, and the Midleton U13 team. Midleton continued to pressurise Crosshaven's defence, but had 2 close escapes in their own penalty area when Crosshaven had decent shouts for a penalty. A through ball caught out the Midleton defence in the 22nd minutes allowing a neat finish past Joseph Wyer for the equaliser.

In the 3rd minute of the second half Midleton were awarded a slightly dubious penalty for handball which was confidently stroked home by Conor Fitzgerald. The Crosshaven heads dropped, and Midleton sensed an opportunity. Jack Enright ran at the defence at every opportunity, taking on shots himself and crossing for teammates to try and score, and scored the goal his efforts deserved after 10 minutes.
Martin Aszyjczyk replaced Cormac Beausang, who had run himself into the ground, after 13 minutes. Jamie Warrington replaced the injured Conor Fitzgerald with 13 minutes left, and scored himself 5 minutes later. Fergal Roche replaced Ross Cummins at right back with 7 minutes left and looked equally at home there.
Jack Enright wrapped up the game with Midleton's fifth and his second with 30 seconds on the clock, which gave the scoreline a slightly unreal look, and certainly didn't reflect Crosshaven's endeavour.
Indeed Muiris Moloney, Aaron Butler and Seadnaidh Smyth were hard pressed at times, Seadnaidh making some terrific interceptions with his electric pace. James Leahy and Owen Coates link up very well in central midfield, James just shading the man of the match award.
Final score Midleton 5, Crosshaven 1.

Under 12A 2009/10 Reports

Midleton Vs Richmond         Venue:  Knockgriffen

The scheduled 11.00am kickoff between Midleton U12A versus Richmond U12 looked in doubt at one point as the referee inspected the pitch. The previous night’s hard frost made playing conditions less than ideal. After much deliberation and many more paces up and down the pitch, the green light was finally given.

Midleton’s Captain and full back Tadgh Gilroy entered the centre circle and after the formalities of the handshakes and coin toss, Tadgh elected to play from left to right. When both captains had returned to their respective positions and the referee had checked all was in order, the match got under way.

Richmond kicked off; the first five mins were timid and tentative for both sides. A combination of the mutual respect and perhaps the post Christmas blues the reason for this. Midleton did however show some promising signs of attacking football, both on the right wing with David Murphy and left wing with Dylan Casey, Richmond’s defence stood fast.

Halfway through the second half Richmond upped the ante and pressed hard into the home side’s half, winning a series of corners in succession, testament to the pressure they applied. Midleton’s defence although a little shaky at times, rode the storm.

The deadlock was broken when Kyle McCarthy, having received the ball close to the halfway line made a piercing run down the right wing and crossed a well judged ball into the box. The awaiting Audrey Tshimanga, having taken on his new role as an attacking midfielder, like a duck to water, struck a sweet lobbing shot to find the roof of the net, 3 mins before the break.

After the break Midleton pressurised their opponents once more. Four mins into the second half , Kyle McCarthy having worked well in midfield played a through ball for Killian Browne to chase. With only the keeper to beat, Killian, cool headedly struck a low accurate ball under the diving keeper to make it 2 nil.

Full credit to Richmond they fought hard for the next 16 mins, with some great passing and movement. 20 mins into the second half, Richmond broke down the right, their big number 9 storming through and from outside the 18 yard box struck an awesome shot, finding the top of the net, Daragh Fleming’s efforts to save were in vain.

Four mins later Midleton’s own No. 9, Kyle, having intercepted a Richmond kick out found the awaiting Audrey Tshimanga, at the far post for a relatively easy tap in. Two mins later Kyle McCarthy, this time storming down the left wing, had a crack at goal from outside the box. His curling, well struck shot found the far top right hand corner to give the home side a commanding 4-1 lead with 4 mins of normal time remaining.

Although the game may at this stage have been out of reach for the away side, this did not deter them from trying to finish the game on a positive note. Pressing forward again, this time down the left, they applied pressure on the Midleton defence. Throwing everyone forward they fought and scraped deep in the home side’s half. It finally paid off with another goal, 2 mins from time.

Final score Midleton U12A 4, Richmond U12 2.
