Midleton F.C Honour Former Greats
Midleton F.C unveiled a new seat overlooking their main pitch at Knockgriffin Park to commemorate former greats Michael Joe Desmond and Paddy Kearns on Saturday December 3rd.
Both of these men gave a lifetime of service to the Magpies, and their widows were present for the unveiling of the seat by club chairman Michael Kirby. Ann Kearns and Katherine Desmond were joined by family members for what was a great occasion and one that was very much appreciated by both families, who are still very much involved with the club. Michael Joe and Paddy may have gone to their eternal reward, but in this seat their memory will live on and both would have been very happy to sit and view their soccer had they both remained with us.

They are now looking down on Knockgriffin from above, and if they could return, they would be delighted to see that Midleton F.C continues to prosper. It was through the work of people like Michael Joe and Paddy in lean times that today’s club is going from strength to strength and those that sit to watch the Magpies in action can now see that these two great stalwarts are fondly remembered and not forgotten.

Midleton U13 Girls All Ireland 7-a-side Blitz
A very exciting day for the girls of the club last Sunday. We traveled to Dublin for the first time ever to take part in the All Ireland 7-a-side Blitz after qualifying out of Munster. The day started early as we left from the club at 5.30am and after a stop of in Kildare arrived at the AUL Complex in Cloonshaugh at 9am.

Captain for match 1 was Niamh Molly
We faced the cream of Dublin soccer, Peamount in our first game. Peamount were the first Irish ladies team to play in the UEFA Champions League only last week.
This proved to be a difficult start for the girls but they keep playing to the very end which was great to see.Shannon Cremin getting the goal after a great pass from Lauren Linehan sent her throw on goal and she beat their keeper superbly.

Captain for Match 2 was Lilly Duggan
The next game was against the Galway outfit from Saltkill Devon. This game was a closer encounter and after finnishing the first half at 0-0 they pulled away to win 3-0 and all our girls got some game time.

Captain for Match 3 was Dianna Browne
In our final group game we played Rophue from Co Donegal and proved to be a very exciting affair as we opened the scoring with a well taken goal from Kate Desmond and then had to take some pressure from them. They scored twice and could have had another only for a flying save made by our keeper Shauna Horgan, who had a great day between the posts. We then tried with all our might to get the equaliser and we got our reward when Lauren Linehan got our second goal. A draw and on we went to the Plate quarter final after a break for a bit of lunch.

Captain for Match 4 was Kate Dineen
By this time those of us on the side lines were feeling the effects of the early morning and so were the girls on the field. But they started the quarter final with renewed effert and were very unlucky to go behind by 2 before the break and for all the effort they put in got caught on the break and the final score finnished at 4-0

At the end of the day we all agreed it was a great performance by all the girls on the day and in the qualifiers in Buttervant 3 weeks ago. This very young side will look forward to having another go at this competition next year and would like to see many more girls come and join them in their efforts.

Panel for the Finals -Courtney Liston,Lilly Duggan,Dianna Browne,Kate Desmond,Kate Dineen,Shannon Cremin, Lauren Linehan, Shauna Horgan, Niamh Molloy, Dionne Carroll, Catherine Walsh & Charley Moore and all paid their part in this great experience.

14th September

Football for All programme will begin on Saturday 17th September at Knockgriffin Park at 3pm.
Will cater for Boys/Girls 6 -14 years with disability
Midleton FC  in conjunction with the FAI are proud to announce that a Football for All programme will begin on Saturday 17th September at Knockgriffin Park at 3pm.

The Football for All Club Programme will provide children with Cerebral Palsy, Dyspraxia, Deafness, Visual Impairments and Intellectual disabilities  the opportunity to play football for their local team and enjoy some meaningful competition against other FFA clubs

This is the most recent initiative by the FAI as part of their disability programme with the aim of providing the opportunity of all children and adults with a disability to have access to football in their local community club. We at the club are very pleased to have been selected to participate and also to be given an opportunity to support this community initiative in a practical way
The Football for All Programme will cater for players with a disability who want to play football. We hope this programme will be a huge step forward in becoming inclusive guaranteeing that all children with disabilities in the future will have the same opportunity as their able bodied peers to play football for their local club".

Mick Kirby

Under-13 Girls
Our Girls U13 did themselves proud on Sunday 11th in Buttervant. They traveled to the Munster 7 a-side Umbro Blitz not really knowing what to expect as it was the first time the club had taken part in this tournament. We played Aishling Annacotty in our first game who have a great tration in schoolgirls soccer and came out on the right side of a 2-1 result. This gave the girls a great boost and they went on to defeat Shannonside 9-0 in the next game. This resulted in the last game against Wilton being a winner takes all game as they had also won both their games. The put in a spirited performance and could have won the game with a little luck. The game ended in a draw and we then waited to see how they would separate they two teams. They decision went to goal difference and we qualified by just one goal to now go on to the All Ireland Finals in Dublin on Sunday October 2nd.
Goals on the day came from Lauren Linehan ,Courtney Liston and Kate Desmond. All the girls played on the day and I m sure they are all looking forward to their big day out in Dublin next month.
Squad; Rayanna Clarkin Power, Kate Dineen, Niamh Molley, Lily Duggan, Shannon Cremin, Shaune Horgan, Lauren Linehan, Courtney Liston, Charley Moore,Dianna Browne and Kate Desmond.

Munster Senior Cup Final Waterford United 3 Midleton 1
Midleton seniors put up a brave display to lose out in the Munster Senior Cup Final in the RSC in Waterford on Thursday evening. Waterford led through two goals from striker David Grincell within the first 11 minutes, and things looked ominous for the Magpies. However, they soon settled, and slowly grew into the game. There were no further goals in the half. However, Waterford struck within three minutes of the break to secure the tie. From there on thought, Midleton more than matched their opponents, and scored midway through the half through James Murphy. Excellent performances by Kevin Stack, John Keane, Killian Flavin, Ray Barnes and Danny Morrissey saw Midleton compete strongly with the League of Ireland side. Despite a number of chances on either side, the Blues ended up victorious on a 3-1 scoreline.

Well done to the lads on a great run, and a creditable performance in the final.
