FAI Cup Qualifying Round

Glebe North 2 V 1 Midleton FC.

Scorer Jake Hegarty

Midleton started this game brightly after long journey to the capital, Danny Morrissey hitting the post after 10min. Midleton should have been awarded a pen on 15min after Morrissey was taken out in the box but referee waved play on to Midletons disgust. James Leahy was next to be taken down in box after stealing possession from an off balance centre back who in turn pulled James down and the referee did blow his whistle this time but a free out to the defence, comedy stuff. Ian Stapleton went close next shooting narrowly wide of post.

A sucker punch on the half hour though a counter attack from Glebe to go one up against the run of play after such a bright Midleton start. Glebe could and should have went two up immediately, but Andy O Donoghue saved brilliantly.

Danny Morrissey again came close on two occasions in the 2nd half, one superb save from the Glebe keeper and then heading narrowly over from 3 yards minutes later. Glebe got a 2nd on 70min, once again a break away when Midleton where really going for it having the home side pinned back for long periods. Conor O’Leary making his 1st full start was beginning to move the ball better with Tijani and we got one back on 80min through Jake Hegarty. Midleton did get one last chance but Luke Smith couldn't get enough purchase to direct home.

A harsh defeat after the long journey but a very good performance and the effort and determination from this group was very pleasing once again who travelled with an extremely young side which will only benefit them playing in these big games going forward.
