Intermediate Cup 2nd Rnd Result

MIDLETON 3-0 DOUGLAS HALL

GOALSCORERS : Gary Collins, Jake Hegarty, Kelvin Kruschel. Superb performance and win to grab a spot in round 3 and open draw of Intermediate cup.  This was a big game for the magpies after a 5week lay off, and they don't come harder than Intermediate cup never no matter what the opposition, and this was the only all premier division fixture in round 2.

The game started slow in a cagey affair, with lack of match sharpness evident, and neither team creating much in opening 20min, Midleton did start to settle from this period on having a good spell of pressure going close from Kevin Murray header.
Magpies did open the scoring when Ray Lally picked up the ball on the end line, and produced a dangerous cross to find Gary Collins with a superb header into top right hand corner, what a header it was.
Midleton should have gone 2 up 5min later through a thundering Jake Hegarty Free-kick but somehow Douglas goalkeeper got a hand to it to touch it off the post and bar and to everyone's surprise the ball came back out and rolled out for a corner.HT 1-0

2nd half begun with Midleton still on top, with Jake Hegarty dominant in the No.9 and James Leahy covering every blade of grass once again to get midleton on the front foot, back four of Tattan, Murray, Collins and Keane winning their battles giving midleton the solid base to freely attack. On 55min Midleton’s 2nd goal came from a Andy O Donoghue goal kick and indecision in the Douglas defence the ball dropped to Jake Hegarty 40yrds from goal in the middle of pitch and he smashed a low drive to bottom corner of the net to the Douglas goal keeper amazement, brilliant awareness and strike.
Confidence was oozing now at this point and rustiness was well out of the system with Midleton moving the ball as they should , Ray Lally ,Tijani were linking well with Kruschel and Cotter causing Douglas problems.
It was Emmett Cotter that produced a fine team goal for Midleton on 70min , after a excellent passage of play, Cotter got free down the right and he delivered the perfect ball on the run right across the 6yrd box, to find the in rushing Kelvin Kruschel to show the hunger and desire to beat the Douglas centre back to the ball and finish to back of the net to put Midleton 3 up and one foot in the next round. Douglas tried to rally but couldn't find any answer to how well Midleton where managing this game now, Seamus Farrell was excellent after his introduction to freshen up midfield and keep Midleton ticking, and also Robbie Williams in his 1st intermediate cup game and Kyle McCarthy entering the fray showing neat touches to see out this fine cup win.
Overall great win and clean sheet after the long layoff. Well Done Boys
