Goalscorers : Kelvin Kruschel, Kevin Murray

What a game for the neutral tonight, a game played at a frantic pace for long periods , Rockmount arrived with a purpose and set there tone early, hounding every ball and working very hard , and could have taken a early lead, but they got a real good chance shortly after with a debatable penalty awarded , one for long discussions , but Rockmount let the chance slip and missed the penalty, to midleton joy.
The magpies took 1st blood with quick thinking from Emmet Cotter with a quick throw to set a break away and it was Kruschel who finished sublimely to put magpies ahead, this game was frantic with every ball heavily contested and Rockmount nearly equalised after a offside call, to ones disbelief never came after a Rockmount player was 5/6 yards offside played on and Big Andy O Donoghue was not to be beaten 1v1 and made a great stop.
MIDLETON stepped it up again and had a really good spell working great openings and Tijani nearly got magpies second shooting just over from a great passage of play.HT 1-1
The second half began the same with high pressure from both teams and one would wonder can they keep this up, Midleton grabbed there 2nd 10min into 2nd half a super set piece delivery from John Keane found Kevin Murray who found top corner with superbly placed header to top corner. Midleton could have been 3 up when again a great passing move found Tijani who was unlucky not to find top corner with curling effort but Brendan O Connell saved brilliantly, at this stage midleton were dominant with the introduction of Ray Lally back from the sun, the ball moved quicker again, but it was a silly defensive mistake let Rockmount back into this game when midleton looked at their most comfortable to make it 2-1, now the game swung back into a 50/50 game and Rockmount applied more pressure but midleton were still extremely dangerous on the break and came close through James Leahy strike, but Rockmount levelled with 10min to go through set piece to back post and centre back jason sexton headed home to make it 2-2, the game really opened up for last 10 with both sides throwing everything at it for 3pts and Midleton could have won it at the death with a glorious chance for conor Fitzgerald but it just arrived too quickly for him to slot home .Great game in general but midleton will feel 2pts dropped from a 2-0 position, but can be very happy with a excellent display against a very good Rockmount side. Hard luck lads heads up again Sunday in this intriguing league battle.
